Castle in the Wilderness

10/18/2016

On a previous trip to the US Rockies years ago, we came across a lovely old chapel, which was
built as part of a boy scout camp. It was built in an old Italian style, and sat overlooking a pond.
I thought it would be the perfect spot for some Fantasy Group pictures.

Only problem was, there had a been a huge flood last year, and the whole pond area was being ripped up by construction crews in an effort to improve the drainage. So, no pond this year.

I still wanted pictures, so set the dolls up along an elevated path, and laid down on the ground to get the 'castle' into the background....

The photos proved very challenging, as like many days on this trip, I was dealing with bright blue skies, clear mountain air, with full sun in the doll's faces, and strong winds from the back. I had brought along my trusty white golf umbrella to shade dolls from the sun, and it would have worked perfectly had it not been for the strong winds blowing down from the mountains, catching the umbrella and constantly turning it inside-out. So I had to work fast and get everyone back into the shade, so there wasn't a lot of room for much creativity, other than for taking a few group shots....

Poor Owen looked like a Lion with his hair always blown forward...

I think that on a hazy or overcast day - with less wind - this place would
have been perfect for a Fantasy story.  Maybe next time.

Well I love the life that the wind has given to the photos. I am also impressed that you had so many dolls out at once in a windy place setting....bravo!
I do love these fantasy outfits too.

And what an amazing place this is!

Your scenic shots are my absolutely photography goals and those are no exceptions!

(and I like how Owen looks with windblown hair tbh xD)

I know how frustating it is when you have some project photos in mind and you cannot take them because of the weather or the light ! On the other hand, it sounds you always manage to take beautiful photos despite everything !
