Camping in the Rain

7/29/2017

The day the kids went up to camp, the weather kept getting worse and worse the closer we got. We set up camp as best we could, but with the torrential rain all night, everything was totally soaked. Many of the campsites were flooded. Including theirs. It reminded me of when I was a kid and we'd go camping with our family. It always seemed to rain. Everything got damp and dirty. We were stuck inside our tents unless we wanted to get soaked outside.  The situation seemed so familiar....
"This doesn't look very good!  What a lot of water!"

Ringo went out, but it was far too wet for anything but boats and ducks...

But Byuri decided she was going to have a good time, so took off her shoes.....

I love the photos. My garden looks almost the same. If my kids where younger, they would play in the water too.
Have a good time anyway.

Thanks! We did have a good time for the most part.

We are home now. I can't post pictures when we are away, as I shoot in RAW, so need to process everything after I get home. And we don't bring a computer along. Not that it would work in the wilderness anyways.

Goodness, what a lot of water! It's rained a considerable amount here as well--flood watches yesterday. Good thing you and your dolls were well prepared, and still had a grand time. :)

Rain, rain GO AWAY! Your photos are wonderful. I'm sitting here with a big smile on my face.
Your kids look like they made the best of a wet situation, although Ringo looks a bit unhappy and Nyssa looks a bit apprehensive.
Byuri is a seasoned, adventurous little camper!

Thanks! There really isn't much one can do about the weather, other than embrace it...so, we tried.

Oh crumbs! I remember so many camping holidays like this myself! LOL! I love these photos of your little gang experiencing a wet camping holiday for the first time.
And bravo to you too!
You still got those doll photos in spite of the weather!!! I so admire the fact that you embraced the situation too!

All the rain was just so 'nostalgic', plus I've taken dolls camping before, and needed different ideas for this time. Can't just do all the same things.

Same here! One summer it literally rained every single weekend we went camping. It got so that people at work would ask if I was going camping before they planned anything outside for that weekend :o(

That's too funny!

When I was young, we used to have a tent trailer - like the one in the photos. It was wood with a canvas tent on top. The last time it got used - north of Ottawa - it rained so much that all the wood swelled so much that all the screws came loose. Then on the way home, after already having a flat tire on our car, we got a flat tire on the trailer. Well, we didn't have a spare, and the trailer came from Europe, so it got parked on the shoulder of the 401 - where me and my cousin were told to stay and watch it - while the rest of the family went to look for a replacement tire. They came back maybe an hour later with one that was a new import wheel. My Dad installed it, and on we went. But soon there was smoke coming from the trailer. Seems the new wheel was a bit too big and rubbing in the wooden wheel well. My Dad was so fed up by that time, that he took his axe to the trailer to make the wheel well bigger. That was the last of that trailer.
