Resin Comparison

2/12/2015

I took a few photos to show the differences between the new and older Iplehouse resins, and to show how much they change over time.  Charie painted Holly to be a little sister to Lonnie, and Lonnie did look exactly like Holly two years ago when she was first painted.  But Holly is the new 'Normal' resin without the French resin of the older formula, and isn't supposed to yellow as quickly

I do like the new 'Special Real Skin', but was surprised that it mellows just as quickly as the older resin formula.  I took a photo of brand new Coco, with Ringo, who arrived last May, and Elin who arrived back in 2011 and is the older resin formula with the French resin. Ringo has mellowed quite a bit in just half a year, and he hasn't even been outside much....

I don't mind the different skin tones, as long as the resin doesn't continue to yellow any further. One good thing though - the yellow doesn't stand out as much in pictures as it does in real life.

And it depends on the way it yellows too. I have a couple of white-skinned dolls that have turned a lovely cream color over time, and it looks better than the paper white they were when I got them. I purchased a doll that was supposed to be normal skin that was on clearance, and he turned out to have yellowed all over evenly enough that I didn't realize he was yellow until I got another normal-skinned doll.

On some dolls, the yellowing can mellow them out a bit. On others, not so much so. I dread how my few tan dolls will turn greenish (at least, that is what I have heard). Not sure what the one blue doll (or the one green-skinned elf girl) will do.

Wait and see. :-)

I don't really mind the mellowed resin, as long as it eventually stops and they don't all turn into lemons.

Very interesting, and interesting that the mellowing is more marked in real life than shows in the photos with Iplehouse dolls.
I have found the same with Dollstown dolls.

Yellowing is easier to accept when the change is gradual.
It was the sudden change (within a week) of my most favourite doll that I have found the hardest to come to terms with.

But I would still rather play with the dolls and take them out and about with me.
And I think you feel the same!

The older 'Normal' dolls didn't look so yellow, until I put a brand new one beside them, and then it was obvious. I expect Holly will mellow too, and then she won't stand out so much.

Anyway, it won't stop me from playing with them, and taking them places out of doors to photograph them, because what's the point otherwise? I just continue to be very careful of their exposure to any sunlight.

I am still so new to the Articulation of the doll world. I still do not know where 2 buy my first doll and what is envolved, I only know that face-up means it needs painted so it does not look like an alien. The only articulated doll I own that is not a Liv barbie doll is Dianna Effners 'smaller' Ashton Drake doll, They are so very expensive, and to hear about the yellowing discourages me further.
