For the bodice I needed some tiny iridescent butterflies. But how to make them? Then I thought to use fabric flower petals. I found some five-petal flowers in pale blue in my stash, and brushed four of the petals of each flower with blue and iridescent glitter paint.....
I'm continuing to work on a Cinderella dress for Peach for her 'Princess Party' next month. I'm trying to create a dress like the one Cinderella wears in the new live-version Disney movie. I'm using a soft blue nylon tricot, which will hang and drape much better to scale than the tulle I've seen most people use on their versions of Cinderella's ball gown. One of the challenges was fitting so much fabric into a tiny waistband. I did manage to squeeze 3 yards of the tricot onto the tiny waistband, but the iridescent underskirt is it's own separate unit with a slightly wider waistband so it hangs a bit lower at the waist and doesn't interfere with the bottom edge of the bodice. The lace-edged slip will hang even a bit lower. For the bodice I needed some tiny iridescent butterflies. But how to make them? Then I thought to use fabric flower petals. I found some five-petal flowers in pale blue in my stash, and brushed four of the petals of each flower with blue and iridescent glitter paint..... When the paint had dried, I cut off the unpainted petal, to turn the flowers into butterflies.... ...and stitched some very tiny beads on for the bodies.

So clever! The beaded bodies really make them look like butterflies.

Yes, I wanted a really full skirt like the dress in the movie, and nylon tricot is very soft. However, it meant sewing the next layer underneath onto a waistband as a separate skirt, since there was no way I was going to be able to add all that fabric onto the dress bodice as well.
