Better Saddles

2/25/2021

After fixing the stirrups on my two Western style saddles, I decided to tackle the English saddles as well. I also tried removing the paint from my brown horse's Western saddle. Parts of it had been painted peach and turquoise, which just wouldn't do, so I tried using Winsor and Newton Brush Cleaner, and it did take some effort over two days, but all the paint came off. Then I took my tan and wine red English saddles, stained them with brown paint, and cut out the pieces for the new stirrups....

I sewed on all the new stirrups, and covered the side flaps of the English saddles with leather...

This is what the white horses looked like when I first got them at Value Village....

Little girls might love pink, but it just wasn't going to do for my dolls, especially not the knights.
"You've got to be kidding!?!?"

I took some of the more realistic bridles some of my horses came with, and painted the pink plastic a wine red, and added leather leads. I had already made fancy saddle blankets and trims, and the newly improved saddles completed their look.  So this is how they look now....

Oh I just love "before and after" shots! And, wow, what a difference! Great eye and work as always Martha!

It was definitely worth the effort.

What an improvement! You would never know what they started out like . I love the photo of your knight making his sentiments known!

Thanks. I'd been meaning to do something about my horses for a while now, and am glad that I finally did.

Now I'm obsessed with horses, and I wish I could get some in a different pose, so I'd have some variety. My four best horses are all the same mold. The reddish brown one is different, as are the 'posable' ones, but they aren't actually posable, so those joints ruin the look.

I miss going to Value Village to look for them. There's some nice ones listed at Toys'r'Us, but who feels like paying full price when they show up often enough for next to nothing at Value Village?

I echo Donna. I don't think your knight is at all enamoured with a pink saddle.

I have seen the Breyer toy horses online but I don't know what size they are.

These are not the Breyer toy horses. Those are a lot smaller. These are from the Our Generation doll line.

Terrific improvement. Love the knight's reaction.
