Behind the Scenes

10/17/2017

I'm currently in the process of trying to make the Toad Wedding albums in Favourite Photos 2017. At first I had divided the photos into two albums, knowing there were way too many for just one.  But it turns out that there's so many that now I'm going to divide them into thirds; A Toad Wedding; Formal Photos & Reception; and A Toad Honeymoon.

There were still some photos that had never been precessed yet, and I came across these two 'behind the scenes' shots that were taken during the set up for the formal wedding photos. The patio table was positioned strategicly down on the grass with hanging baskets propped up behind for the 'garden' setting. The benches are positioned around the table so I have a place to put trays of dolls and props, plus it's a place to sit to take the photos.  The sheet of white foam core leaning against the table is for bouncing light onto the dolls - especially the two Kaye Wiggs girls....

The basket on the yellow tray is where all the little critters get stored. None of them stand all that well on their own, so I lined that small basket in order to have a way to display them on a shelf...

This was such a fun project, that totally took on a life of it's own.  I had originally envisioned just a simple wedding with a few pictures, but instead it turned into month long photo event with over a hundred and fifty final photos.   But then, as they say, "you get out of it what you put into it".

I love your behind-the-scenes photos!

Those little critters really are little - wow! The photo of them in the basket is great, and very cute. They sure are little!

Thanks! Yes, they are TINY. Nothing like stepping back and seeing the dolls in their actual surroundings, to give a real sense of their size.

Thank you for the photography tips...I especially like the idea of using white foam core board to bounce light on your subjects.:)

The white foam core works especially well if you are using a tripod, so your hands are free. But I was lazy and just propped the board up against me when I leaned in to take the photos. And sometimes I asked my husband to hold it in just the right position.

Thank you for sharing with us a little bit more of this wonderful wedding !

I could not guess they were all so tiny, it’s fascinating, you have a talent for giving life to your dolls and critters through your photos !

In my opinion, this Toad wedding was even more than a success, it was an enchanted episode…

Thanks! It can be quite the challenge making such little figures look 'real' in their surroundings. The biggest trick is to get down on their level and shoot at their eye level.

The whole series did turn out really well, and much more in depth than I had originally planned. Now I need to come up with something new.

You do such beautiful pictures with wonderful stories...would you ever consider putting into books and publishing them. I know my grandchildren would absolutely love them... not to mention myself!

I get asked that all the time, and likely will at some point. The thing is, I want to keep taking photos as long as I am still able, and worry about books later when I can't do it anymore.

I echo post here but thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make such wonderful photostories. I just so enjoy seeing where your imagination takes you.
And behind the scenes shots are always fun to see. And they also serve as a great reminder that the dolls didn't do it all themselves....it was you! LOL!

I am in the process of getting a table into my garden now, as my knees are preventing me from sprawling on the ground now....or rather they are making the getting up extremely troublesome!

I can relate. Going down isn't too bad, but getting up again is really hard. Nothing beats being able to set up on a table, and sit comfortably on a bench to take photos. The pictures usually end up better too, since I can actually make little adjustments myself, that I'd not be able to do if I was on the ground.
