Behind the Scene

I had wanted to take a photo of 'Owen biking to work' in a city setting, as opposed to always out in the country.  So I made him a safety vest so he'd stand out in busy traffic.

We went out on several occasions, driving around town looking for a good place to take the photos. There was no way I wanted to get down on the ground in a public space, so I was looking for something raised. There were utility boxes at the mall, but they were just a bit too high. It was also way too windy, and I was afraid Owen would blow over.

So we finally ended up at the town hall, where there's raised flower boxes with wide enough edges to serve as 'sidewalks'....

If I shot the photos from the other side of the wall, I could get the park and the street in the background....

Being in a public space there were bound to be some people passing by.  One old man stopped to look, and asked if I'd bought the 'figure at Canadian Tire'.  I guess he noticed the Canadian Tire 'tool box' (gift card container). Now that would have been something!  But I politely explained that he was a special doll from Korea.  Anyways, he said he really liked it.

I always so admire your creativity in all of this--not just dolls and outfits, but the props and the settings. I am well-trained at spotting "dolly size" accessories everywhere I go (and my four children are too, LOL) but I am still far too intimidated to recognize AND make use of all the wonderful settings that may be around me outside of my own property. I do worry a little about unkind comments, but I also worry about people walking up and grabbing my things without thought of what they may damage. They are just "toys" after all. I guess as my son (13 and now starting to tower over me--and I'm 5'7") continues to grow he'll be a good escort if I can keep him involved. Either that or get another large dog. Ha, ha!

I mostly go places where there's no people - or very few. But sometimes I have no choice, and just have to go ahead and take photos even though there's lots of people - like at the beach or Niagara Falls, or on a Ferry somewhere. Yes, it makes me very nervous when there's people around, but most people just ignore us, or if they are intrigued they'll come up and watch, and maybe ask to take a photo too. No one has ever made nasty comments or touched anything.

Well of course I am smiling broadly at this posting! You definitely have captured the feel of Owen on the road.

It is good to see Jan.

It's all a matter of learning to see the possibilities in a setting.
