Behind the Mask

I finished his shirt and vest yesterday, and am almost finished his cloak, and couldn't resist taking a photo. Rex is looking very Victorian, almost like a vampire here.....

...and then from another angle, with the Christmas tree in behind....

Makes his hair look so messy! But why always so critical of the guys?? I want them to be perfect, but have such a hard time getting them to look like I envision them.

Now for the worst job of all - to tackle making a new Phantom mask.

I agree, he looks very Victorian (and very handsome)! His costume is great. Don't be concerned about his hair not being perfect. The few wayward strands just make him look more "real". I think he's perfect!

Your Rex is so handsome that I have a big urge to get one myself (I always loved his sculpt). Your Victorian outfit for him is amazing.
Regarding his mask - what about cloth mache technique? Some thin cloth-fabric dipped in glue and put over protective layer of foil and left till dry, it should be paper thin and sturdy when dried. Or maybe you could use paper tissue dipped in glue.

Thanks! He's always been one of my favourite Iplehouse sculpts, but I didn't want to get a BIG one, so was happy when they released him in FID size.

I have considered both your suggestions already, and have decided to try Aves Apoxie one more time. The problem is, that I'm working towards a deadline. I just need something for photos, and if the mask isn't durable enough, then I can try one of these other techniques. Not that i intend for him to wear the mask indefinitely. I think after I take some photos with him as the Phantom, I'll switch out his vest and cravat and let him be the Count, who actually gets the girl.
