Back to School

This morning Ringo headed back to school for the first time after being sick for weeks....
Picture
And it was the perfect opportunity for some tips on photographing moving vehicles in the background, and making them look in scale to the dolls.

We had a LOT of snow on Sunday, so there were huge piles of snow at the end of the driveway by the road - but not quite as high as I would have liked, as it meant I'd have to crouch down to photograph the dolls which I'd positioned on the top of the snow pile. I waited for the buses to come by. There's a school just eight houses down the street - the school driveway is right behind those two big evergreen trees in the distance - and a bus is pulling in...
Picture
I had wanted school buses in the background of my photo, but they had to be just the right distance away, and they are constantly moving, so I have to wait for just the right moment. When the buses are still far in the background, they work out just fine, and look in scale.....
Picture
As the buses get closer they start to look bigger, and they can quickly become out of scale.
It would have been better if I'd been able to get down lower, but I couldn't.

However, with a bus passing right beside the snow pile, it appeared WAY too big....

So when shooting outside, and there's cars going by in the background, it's
important to keep scale in mind, and shoot when the vehicles are not too close.
And take lots of photos so that at least one will turn out.
