No sooner were we away from North Sydney, but the fog moved in. There was still a bit of sunshine overhead on the sun deck, but it was hard to see much out beyond the ship... The fog became so thick, that we couldn't see anything. Six and a half hours later, the girls went back up on deck to get their first look at Newfoundland, as the ship slowly made it's way into Port Aux Basques. "I can't see hardly anything!"

Oh my goodness! This just goes to show that I know nothing about travel on the sea! Just look at all that fog!

The old ferries, which looked more like cruise ships, took just five hours to cross from North Sydney to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. But a few years back they redesigned the ferries as more of a 'transport ship' with focus on the trucks, and to save fuel, they go a lot slower. And considering you have to be at the ferry dock at least two hours before sailing time, it's now a whole day affair. And that's just for 160 km of open ocean!
