Beside the Ocean

We spent the night at the end of the upper parking lot at Peggy's Cove overlooking the ocean, and woke to a dense fog...

Bonnie and Jamie entertained the pups while the adults put the RV back in order and made breakfast...

Then after breakfast, they went back down to the village, for one last look....

It started to rain as we headed down the road to Indian Harbour, a lovely little fishing village where Jim Henson shot Lighthouse Island, for his Jim Henson Hour way back in the late eighties.

The fog cleared and the sun came out, as we made our way to Lunenburg, which is a World Heritage site. I had several doll photos in mind, but first it was time for some lunch along the waterfront, with it's view of the famous harbour...

It was also time to phone ahead and make a reservation on the ferry to Newfoundland. But we were shocked to hear there were no RV spaces available for several weeks, and that's when we needed to be back home. We'd never had a problem before. We'd always head out to the Maritimes, then phone a day or two ahead to make a reservation once we knew we'd actually be able to make it. But apparently during Covid Newfoundland became a very popular tourist destination, and now one needs to make a reservation a month in advance.

We were both rather stunned, and very disappointed, especially considering it was a banner year for icebergs, but we had driven over 1,800 km and were already out here, and needed to come up with some alternate plan. However, due to the circumstances, all my photo plans for Lunenburg went out the window, and we just slowly made out way back north along the coast, stopping at a picturesque fishing wharf in North West Cove...

Bonnie and Jamie went to check it out...

We decided to spend the night at Peggy's Cove, and then we'd decide what to do next.

The clouds moved in as we arrived back at the Cove, just in time for sunset...

Tomorrow would be another day....

Down in the Village

Jamie and Bonnie went down to the wharf..

...and the sun actually burned through the fog for a few seconds.

But then it was gone again.

Grace and Jude walked down the road down into the iconic fishing village

..passing the pewter artisan's shop, which is now all alone on a small 'island' in the middle of the newly reworked roadway loop...

The famous view down to the harbour...

Even though it's an extremely popular tourist destination, Peggy's Cove is still a working fishing village...

Happy Birthday!

It was one of my friend's birthdays and I knew she loved my baby dragons, so I took some photos for her birthday.

I couldn't decide between two birthday cakes, so took photos of the dragons with both.

The fourth of July is National 'Fry an Egg on the Sidewalk Day'...
(and it looks like we'll be able to do that today)

July 4th is also 'Tom Sawyer Whitewashing the Fence Day'....

...and, oh yes, it also happens to be 'US Independence Day'....

So here's wishing all my friends to the south a Happy Independence Day!

Peggy's Cove

A little over a week ago we were on our way to North Sydney, Nova Scotia, to catch a ferry to Newfoundland, and we always like to take a break on the long drive, and visit Peggy's Cove, which is one of our favourite places in the Maritimes...

Tourists come by the busload to visit the iconic lighthouse...

During Covid there was a lot of work done, totally reworking the road system up to the restaurant parking lot, and creating observation decks overlooking the lighthouse.

Jude and Grace warned the children to stay on the observation decks.
