Agnes was the first to come and visit Saphira and Winston and their babies, and they all went for a walk in the meadow. Elliot was riding piggy-back on his Mom, ..while Winston had the other three in his cart... Saphira put Elliot down, and Winston let the other babies run loose in the flowers... But Sparkle wanted Agnes to pick her up...
I was updating my Favourite Photos albums, and came across these photos of Saphira and Agnes taken in the scillas two months ago, shortly after she arrived. It's amazing just how fast time has been flying this year. So, here they are now...
I love taking photos of my dolls outside on location, but there are certain situations which are less than ideal. Like a bright sunny day, especially in the middle of the day when the sun is high overhead. It makes for very harsh lighting with dark shadows on their faces, like with Lawrence and Monica when they went out to the woods one afternoon in spring. There were clouds that day, which would have made for much better lighting, but they never went in front of the sun. So I gave up, and that evening tried again. This time the sun was low in the sky, and the light was nowhere near as harsh, which made for much better photos.
It was getting late, and time for bed, so Saphira lay down on the bed with her children. They were all snuggling in with their little bunnies... "Well, this has certainly been a very busy first day for you all." "...but now it's time to go to sleep." Saphira got up... "Good night children." "...and sweet dreams." "Good night Mama and Papa." Winston and Saphira's hearts were full of love.... ..as they watched their little ones settle down... ...and drift off to sleep.
Winston and Saphira's ploy had worked. The little ones were tired, so Winston took them up on the bed with a book.... They were all curious to see the photos in his album ...with all his friends, and the interesting things he had done. They especially loved seeing the ones from when he met their Mother.
It was clear to Saphira that their little ones needed to use up some energy, so she and Winston decided to take them for a walk in hopes of tiring them out. So they headed off together to the meadow... Saphira warned them not to wander off too far... ...as it would be too easy to get lost in the tall flowers.... It was hard keeping up with their Mom and Dad in the flowers.... So Saphira and Winston decided to just stop, and let them play... After letting the little ones play for a while, "Come along children, it's time to go back home now." ..and they all came running....
But the peace wasn't going to last. Saphira left for a few minutes and all mayhem broke loose. The kids went wild....except for Sparkle, who just sat and watched.... Winston didn't know what to do... "Saphira came back in..."What is going on here!?!?" "Behave yourselves!! You are descended from a long line of noble dragons." "You are not a bunch of wild animals!!" "So stop this at once!!" "Pick up your food, and sit back down at the table like civilized little dragons." "Yes Mama."
The first order of business was to feed their babies. They were still too young for anything other than Dragon Kibble, and Saphira had received a bag at the baby shower, but it wasn't going to last very long, so Winston went to get some more. "Hopefully this will last for a few days." The children were all seated at the table, wearing their bibs from Auntie Agnes, awaiting their dinner.... The girls were sitting beside each other... The eldest, and first to hatch, had the same colouring as her Mother, so they named her Nuri, after Saphira's Mother. They named the other little girl Sparkle. Then there were the two boys. The slightly older of the two had Winston's colouring, so they named him Elliot after Winston's father. And the youngest, and last to hatch, seemed to have an allergy to something and kept sneezing little flames, so they named him Scorch. All of them seemed to enjoy their kibble. Saphira and Winston felt pleased and proud...that their first meal together was a success.... ...and that they had four such well-behaved little dragons.
The Toilet Paper Chronicles arrived today, so I'm busy signing them, and packing them up to send them off to their new homes... So, what's next? We've been working on Mr. Ropuha, a Toad's Life, which is another really fun book. He's had a lot of adventures over the years, and for someone so small, he sure is photogenic! The book covers everything from his arrival, to his meeting Tiana, and their budding relationship, and eventual marriage, followed by the adventures they had together. Like with every other book, it needed a few new photos taken. Back when I photographed their wedding ceremony back in 2017, I never took any front views of Tiana as she started down the aisle. Thankfully these little characters don't age, so it was possible to set up the exact same scene, but with Tiana facing the camera this time. So here comes the bride....again.... As the book progressed, and the little couple made more and more new friends, the scenes became ever more complicated, with so much going on at most events, that we really needed something 'simple' to separate two really busy parties towards the end of the book. So I came up with another of my favourite little artist scenes. I'd come across a little sofa shaped jewel box at Value Village last month, and thought it was the perfect size for Tiana to recline on. She thought so too, and insisted Mr. Ropuha paint her portrait while she posed on the settee. Naked. Some time in the next month or two it will go out for a test print. Then after that, there's A Christmas Story, my first actual story book. It's just in the very beginning stage, with Marianne currently working on the basic layout, and it's looking very impressive! It will probably be ready at the end of the summer, or early fall. This will be the front cover... So lots to look forward to!
