Lonnie's Party Dress

I took my three lovely young ladies - KIDs Lisa, Peach, and Lonnie - for their Princess
Party Portraits among the crabapples the other night. I think my personal favourite of
the three dresses I made, is Lonnie's minty 'Southern Belle' gown with the multi-layered
skirt. She looks so beautiful in it, especially surrounded by all the pink blossoms.

Even though I have four crabapple trees, they are way too high over my head for doll photos. So I take the dolls to the nearby high school where their crabapple branches are very low and almost touch the ground. I brought my SID Asa. She's not been out much the last few years....

Happy Birthday Ringo!

Today we celebrate Ringo's birthday (arrival date). But how do you photograph a birthday
party, which is one of the happiest events in a young child's life, when the boy in
question has a perpetual frown, and can't ever smile, even if he wanted to?

It's Ringo's birthday, and all the children have arrived at his house for the party.
Holly has brought a special balloon and a lovely gift she's chosen especially for him ....

Everyone gathers round to watch Ringo open his gifts.
"It's a Rubik's Cube!" he exclaimed. "I know you really wanted one", she said.

Ringo was touched that Holly had remembered. He started to play with the cube right away.
Then Leona came in with the beautiful birthday cake she had made.

Everyone gathered around to look at the cake. "Wow, a Dinosaur cake!"
But Ringo just couldn't leave his Rubik's Cube alone...

"Now I want to take a picture of just the birthday boy with his cake..."

"Do you think you could just leave that toy alone for a minute and look at the camera, please?"

"All righty then. And now for a group picture...."

"Wow, what a great cake!" said Efreet, who also loved dinosaurs, "I want a slice with a T-rex. I can't wait to taste it!" The girls started to enjoy a slice of cake, but Ringo continued to be preoccupied with his Rubik's Cube. "How do I make it go back so each side is just one colour?"

Ringo got himself a slice of cake, but couldn't take his eyes off his new toy...

He watched as everyone took a turn trying to 'fix' the Cube.......
but no one could get it back so each side was just one solid colour...

"Here, let me try", said Holly, and Ringo handed her the Cube....

A turn here, and a turn there, and soon she had it all good as new....
"Here you go......all fixed".

Ringo smiled "Thank you!", and thought to himself
"not only is she super cute, but she's so smart too!"

Racing the Crabapples

Last Sunday was Peach's birthday, and although her best friends did acknowledge it, her party is scheduled for when the crabapple blossoms bloom. Or more specifically, when the blossoms are finished and the whole garden becomes a carpet of pink and white petals. Well, the first two of my crabapple trees are in bloom - the Pink Profusion crabapples with their gorgeous double flowers...

I had already finished Peach's birthday dress and cake when I decided to postpone her party, and thought it would just be a quiet wait as the blossoms opened, but then it dawned on me that her two best friends also needed something suitable to wear for a Princess Party as well. So now I'm in a race against the blossoms to finish two more Princess dresses....

...and we are going away for two days to visit our daughter and her family. And the crabapple blossoms continue to open further. Will I get done in time?

My order of gorgeous laces from China arrived today! It was a total surprise since it never showed up on tracking. I had ordered six one-yard lengths in a variety of beautiful colours and patterns....

Ever since Charie gave me two gorgeous pieces of lace that she had purchased
from this same Chinese Etsy shop, I've wanted to order some more myself.

After all, Holly and Erzulie looked so pretty in their lace party dresses,
that all the others wanted one too. Now they'll get them.....eventually.

The laces are from this Etsy shop in China and were remarkably inexpensive.

Sailing Boats

We took some of the kids down to the lake last night so they could sail their boats.

The lake was a bit rough, but we found a stream with some quiet pools.....

The Spanish Galleon is a Value Village find, the small schooner was purchased at the lighthouse
gift shop at Peggy's Cove, and the sailboat is an ornament from a Christmas Shop in Santa Fe.

Sweater Weather

Well, that weekend heat wave was thankfully short-lived, and we are back to
cooler spring weather again, so it's back to wearing warm sweaters ....

Lonnie wanted to try on the new sweater I won last month for the Iplekids Yahoo group's
monthly draw. The lovely blue and green variegated sweater was knit and donated as a
prize by Donna. The colours are almost the same as her little brother's Fair Isle sweater.

So, what could be better on a cool day, but to pick some flowers and play with the puppies?

Flowers for Ellie

Saturday Jan took the granddaughters to the park. On their way home the girls were picking as many dandelions as they could carry - "for Ellie". Just the flowers without stems.

Jan asked "who is Ellie?"

"You know, Ellie, the elephant in the bird bath!", and when they got home, they tossed all the flowers into the bird bath - Mr. Ropuha's private pool.....

"This is going to be one dandy swim!"
