Another Photo Shoot

I changed Rex and Bianca this morning so they'd be wearing something different for the next photo session. I gave Bianca her original pink gown back, and put Owen's Musketeer outfit on Rex.  He's quite a bit taller than Owen, and the pants and sleeves are too short, but with tall boots, and wrist guards it doesn't matter. The only thing that doesn't work is the hat, since Owen has a much bigger head. But I'll bring it along, and someone can always hold it.

I first posed them at home so I wouldn't have to think too hard out in the field.
The room turns into a total dump with all the things I had to get out....
Picture
Rex works really well on the horse. It's an our Generation Morgan Horse.
Looking at them from another angle....

I'm hoping I'll be able to recreate this little scene....

Today we went down to the lake. It's considerably colder down there, so the scillas bloom at least a week later than they do on the townline, so that gives me extra time for more photos, especially when the weather isn't exactly cooperating.

We have to carry everything from the car, along the trail, over the bridge high over Petticoat Creek, and along the cliff tops into the Conservation area. There's a section at the edge of the woods there, where the scillas have naturalized, and bloom in a giant blue carpet every spring.

I chose a section under the sumacs, where there aren't too many dog-strangling vines. I brought along an old blanket to sit on, since it's been raining a lot lately, and the ground isn't dry.
Picture
Rex and Bianca pose in the flowers, and I take a LOT of photos. It's going to take me a while to process them all, but here's one....

....and another.....

After I'm done, Jan went into the flowers to retrieve the horse, and dolls....

So now I have my work cut out for me....processing more photos....

Wow, I am speechless, your photos are like a fairy-tale story. All of your pictures with the scillas are just magical. Your Rex is so handsome, Bianca is ethereal like a fairy princess.

Thank you! I really loved how the two of them looked together in the scillas, so had to change them into other clothes for today's photo shoot, so people wouldn't get bored.

Sounds like it's quite a hike just getting to the scillas. Judging by the two photos of Rex and Bianca among the flowers, I can't wait to see the rest. It's easy to forget the scale of these dolls until we see the photo of Jan standing behind them.

It is a bit of a walk to get to this location, but then, there's nothing like taking doll photos to give me some exercise.

I took a LOT of photos, and am still working on the ones I took last week over on the townline. But they will all show up eventually.

Rex and Bianca are a lovely, beautiful fairy tale... a handsome prince on a fine stallion, a lovely princess in a beautiful gown. Elements dreams are made of.

It does suggest that, doesn't it?

The more I photograph these dolls, the more I want to make more costumes for them. But there's so many other things I had wanted to do as well. And so many other dolls wanting to be photographed.

Dear Martha, oh my goodness, I am elated! The photos are wonderful!
Thanks for showing us the behind the scenes pictures.
My favorite is the last one, with your husband in the shot.
I like how you think your perfectly neat house is messy (laugh).
I can't wait to see more of the photos.

Thanks! As one of my biggest fans, I try to remember to take these kinds of photos for you.

Well, I do keep my house very neat, but when I'm changing dolls, or prepping for a photo shoot, there's so many boxes that have to come out. I do have a place for everything, so it's not hard to put everything back.

Martha I love all your Rex and Bianca photos! So beautiful and romantic. Your location shots are the best! You're so intrepid to lug everything into the great outdoors! How lucky to have an "assistant." It's mostly so soggy here during the spring that I'd be squelching through mud to get a shot!

Thanks! I love location shots, but it's not easy to find flowers the right scale, so I have to really take advantage of the scillas during the week or so that they bloom. This new location by the lake does extend the opportunity though, since they bloom later there.

I don't drive, so without my 'assistant', I wouldn't be going anywhere.

I do love the fantasy look of your rain forest, and am hoping that we can go out to the west coast this fall. The problem will be trying to decide who to bring for photos.

Very romantic photos - and I love the musketeer outfit, it really suits him.

And it's always fun to see the "behind the scenes" pics! Quite a hike, although that sounds rather fun too (I like hiking ). Although perhaps more work, since you guys did have to lug dolls and props.

Hi. First your photos are beautiful!
I'm wondering how tall your dolls are? I'm wanting to use these horses but worried my dolls are a bit too tall. Thanks!

Thanks! The woman is 45 cm tall, and the guy is 49 cm. That's without wigs or shoes.
