Another Cornhusk Doll

6/16/2014

I made a second cornhusk doll, so my Byuri can have one too. I figured I better just make it now while I still have the first one to compare to. It's so much easier copying a real sample, than working from an image on the computer.  So here's Byuri posing with both cornhusk dolls.....
Picture
I'm working my way through cutting up some old clothes. They are all soft, silky brocades. These kinds of fabrics are not available in any fabric stores, so the only way to get them is by cutting up old clothes. There's old skirts, pants and several blouses. It's not much fun, but after ironing and folding, they will take up so much less space - and be all ready to use when I need them.

I also had to fix Narin's pants this morning. When I took him for the Father's Day photo, his pants wouldn't close at the back when he was seated. When I originally made his pants, the waistband was made to fit a bare waist, and I didn't take into account the extra thickness of his shirt and underwear. So he had a wide open split in the back.

There wasn't time to fix it before the photos, so I figured the magic of Photoshop would take care of it after the fact. Which it nicely did.... But it still needed to be fixed. So I had to pick off the old waistband, cut a new longer one, and replace it. Now it's all nice and neat, and Narin won't have any embarrassing splits in the back anymore.

I love the two little dollies....and that photo of Byuri with them is just so adorable.
And what an embarrassing mishap for Narin *blush* thank goodness it will never happen again-thanks to your hard work today! LOL!

And what wonderful old clothes you clothes you have there, they must have taken some finding!

I figured I could put Narin back in the cupboard like that, but then he'd have the same issue next time. Better just fix it. Time flies by whether I do it or not, so might as well do it.

Actually, my box with secondhand clothes (to be made into doll clothes some day) was getting too full, so I took out all the brocades to cut them up, and put them into the brocade boxes. Of course, those boxes are more than full already too. I seriously need to make something out of them - something for the largest dolls so the fabric gets used up faster - then the box lids can fit again.

Fabrics have a way of expanding. ;-)

I should know. All my fabric boxes are stuff to the gills, and I have started using shopping bags for the overflow.

I really need to get sewing...

Fabric is always following me home, but I'm getting better at turning a blind eye and just focussing on what I need, when I go to the fabric store. Even so, there's always at least some fabric follows me home.

Problem is, it's way faster to buy it, than to make something out of it!

The corn husk dolls are adorable. Curious though. Where on earth did you find corn husks this time of year?

In my supply closet. I save EVERYTHING!
