Martha, I think Narae should auction off the drawings for a charity (smile). I will bid on Erzulie's. They are a very talented group.

Sorry, but I don't agree with teachers taking their students artwork for any reason, regardless how noble it might seem.

When I was in high school, we had one assignment where we were to do a dozen drawings in all kinds of mediums in a sketchbook, and hand that in at the end of the term. When my sketchbook was handed back, the teacher had ripped out all but two of my pictures. he had mounted them as part of an exhibition, and I never got a single one back. I was shocked, offended, and extremely disappointed - even though I got awarded a trophy that year for the highest art mark in that grade.

So, having experienced that side of the deal, I'd NEVER do that to anyone else. Which is why I told my granddaughters up front that I was just borrowing their drawings, and after I was done with my photo story, I was going to give them all back, so they could hang them in their dollhouses.

Now, if the kids were told up front that they were doing an art project specifically to be donated to an auction, that's a different story.

The exact same thing happened to me in grade school. A teacher asked to borrow two of my drawings as an example for another class, and then she was going to hang them up outside our classroom - both of which were fine... But after she took down the display she gave my work to another teacher... and then they moved to Calgary and I never saw them again. -.-;

Not sure if that or the writing in pen on a couple of my projects was worse, but I really appreciate that you're modelling such respectful behaviour in your stories. <3

I don't know why some teachers feel they are entitled to the things their students make in class, and just do what they want with it, often without even asking. Personally, I consider it stealing, and it certainly violates the children's trust.
