A New Outfit for Tiana

3/15/2021

Muffy continued to be busy with her sewing commissions.  After the dress for herself and her two mouse friends, she started on a dress for Tiana, the Toad....

*Note; This outfit was the most difficult so far.  I don't know if it's because Tiana has always worn a purple sun dress, and it's hard to see her in something else. Plus the shape of a toad's body doesn't exactly make for the most elegant of dresses. I had always considered Tiana as young and vibrant, and now she looks like an old lady. But it is what it is. Maybe with her partner in a Victorian gentleman's suit, she'll look just fine.

It is a gorgeous dress but the length is quite grown-up. Maybe something like Heidi wore in the illustrated versions of the books might have a younger effect?

She's a married adult, so can't have anything too childlike. I'm not sure if I can shorten her skirts, but I will take a look.

Dear Martha- I am totally inspired by this little mouse's sewing journey -- and, well, I have two naked mice of my own (the last of Iryna's most recent release), and I was wondering if you have patterns you might be willing to post. I would love to clothe them, and have been using your other tutorials for my Iplehouse BIDs, so you wouldn't have to do more than post patterns (I know you are racing against the clock for the Forest dwellers' clothes this March!).But whatever you decide, thank you for offering all these creative journeys and tutorials. They have inspired and helped me to actually sew for my little dollies. :-)

I'm so glad that my patterns and tutorials have inspired you to sew for your own dolls.

Unfortunately I can't really share the patterns, since they are my variations on the artist's patterns. Back when I got my characters, the artist released patterns for clothes for each one. I downloaded them all back in those days. Someone recently said they weren't able to download the patterns off the Whispering Grass site, so if you can't, just send me an email and I can send you the files that I have. I think that should be okay, since the artist offered them for free.

Thank you so much Martha! I am not finding them on the Whispering Grass site, and would be very grateful if you could send them. Since they were free, it does seem like it would be OK.... I will email you right away.

I think that Tiana's outfit suits her. As you say, it only matters what she and her beloved think. I am trying to remember how many years they have been betrothed. Is it three?

Tiana arrived in 2016, and they were married in the fall of 2017.

She looks very cute in her new dress, like a little country lady.
Maybe turning her scarf off at an angle might make her look a bit more "young and trendy"? (Or maybe it would only make her look as though she got dressed in a hurry.)

The last photo is priceless!

I did pick her dress apart and cut 1/8" off the top of her green skirt, and the bottom of her bodice, as well as 1/4" off the top of her pink underskirt, then sewed everything back together again. She doesn't look quite so old, but I'm still not that happy with her outfit. I love the other five ladies, but just can't get past Tiana's outfit. I had wanted her to be a 'little lady' along with Miss Kitty, the Fox, and she looks too dowdy.
