I needed some stretchy fabric with nice tiny stripes for tights, and ended up at Value Village again. Just about any colour of tiny stripes can be found by checking out the children's and ladies T-shirts. For just a few dollars I picked up a couple of colours I needed - and then some.
I ordered a 'Layla' last night. Kaye Wiggs makes the most adorable dolls, and I couldn't resist getting one. She's a limited availability MSD size (45 cm) but with a young child's body. When I first saw Layla's prototype, I thought right away that she could become my 'special doll' - the perfect little cutie to wear some very special clothes - ones that will not be put up for sale. I have some vintage dresses my Mom saved from when I was a baby, and I also saved some outfits from my own babies. All those clothes won't ever be worn again, but they have great sentimental value to me. So instead of being stored away in boxes in the basement where they will never see light of day again, I thought I could make doll clothing out of them - smaller versions of the originals - for Layla. However, since she's a limited availability, pre-order doll, she won't be coming until April.
I've been taking some time this week, while Ryung was away, to work on a birthday gift for Teagan. She turns three on New Year's Eve, and I've cross-stitched a name tag to go on a nice sturdy bright purple 'cosmetics bag' which will be full of doll clothes for her favourite dolls. I'm hoping to finish a few more baby doll outfits today, so I can get back to my BJD fashions.
Ryung came back from Charie Wilson's spa today. She had a total make-over, and even got new eyes! I loved Ryung before, but now she's even more beautiful! Charie did an amazing job sanding out all her little dents and scratches - including some on her cheek (the result of a fall in Jasper National Park) - and created a lovely soft matte finish which will photograph so much better. Her body was blushed and she was given a lovely manicure and pedicure. Charie also glue-sueded her joints, so now she poses like a dream - and she can actually stand unaided. Thanks Charie!! Great job!!
I put up a wing tutorial the other day - since I found the tutorial page a bit bare-looking with just the one for the boots. So I redid the instructions for layered tulle wings, using some of the photos I took for a magazine submission a few years back. My Ice Fairy was on the cover of the January 2009 issue of Doll Crafter and Costuming, with complete patterns and instructions for the entire costume included inside. Now that DC&C is gone and no one will be able to get instructions through back-issues, I've decided to revive and update just the wing instructions. I also included the slightly larger pink and lavender fairy wings I made at that same time in order to take fairy photos of my three young granddaughters. Those wings were finished a little differently and I figure the more options I present, the more useful the tutorial might be.
Mae has already announced the wing tutorial on BJDCollectasy. Now she would like me to do some new tutorials exclusively for her site! |
