Narae was very pround of her studio....
"I have to go now, sis. It's been so great to see you again.
We'll have to catch up some time. I hope your show goes well!"
One of Narae's sisters - a much older Narae, and just my second BJD - came to surprise her sister. "Wow, you've really done well for yourself! I love your paintings, and this Gallery space is fantastic!" Narae was very pround of her studio.... But the place was getting very crowded, so it was hard to talk and catch up... One of the other people interrupted to ask some questions about one of the paintings... So she decided to just chat a little with one of the handsome attendees.... But she seemed to always be in someone's way.... Narae and Maya were way too busy to visit..... So she tried to stay out of the way.... She remembered she had a lunch date...
"I have to go now, sis. It's been so great to see you again. We'll have to catch up some time. I hope your show goes well!" Narae was so happy that her grandfather had come to see her show... He was so proud of her and loved all her work... Narae took him for a tour around her Gallery... But there was one painting he kept going back to.... "I'd really like to buy that one, if you don't mind." So Maya took it to the back room and wrapped it up for him. "Here you go, sir." "Thank you, son." "I'm so glad I came! This is a wonderful show, and I'm sure you're going to do really well today."
The whole neighbourhood had heard about Narae's wonderful art classes, and they were curious to see her paintings, and possibly buy one. So the crowds filed in as soon as the door opened.... Narae's Grandfather came.... ...and one of her sisters....who was very impressed.... "I helped her with her art classes." "Look Mom! She painted a picture of me and my friends!" *Note - Please excuse the doll stands. With this many dolls I had to rely on a few stands, especially for the ones that are difficult posers. I tried to keep them hidden as much as possible, but the stands do peak through every here and there.
Maya and Narin helped Narae hang her paintings... When they were all done, Maya slipped out to get something.... "This is from Narin and me, for the opening of your Art Show.." "I love it!! Thank you both so much!!" "I know just the right spot for it, and then everything is all set for the show..."
Just finished making some props from Sculpey - a bunch of miniature cellphones, and some miniature versions of two soapstone sculptures (one Inuit, one Micmac) and a whale bone bear carving, all in our collection.... I used some Granite textured Sculpey, and blended in a bit of colour, and some lighter and darker streaks to better simulate the texture of the stone and bone.
I finished the three dresses, all made from one blue scarf. Two have black jackets, while the third has a dark blue one, since there's no black in that part of the print. It's interesting how they all have such a different look. To me, Asa looks contemporary, while Benny looks like she's from the 60's, or even earlier, and Leona reminds me of the older girl in Sound of Music, so mid 40's. Maybe it's the shoes. Unfortunately I didn't have anything else. Leona has the small bust... While Asa and Benny both have the Glamour Bust...
It's another lovely (although very cold) sunny day, but it's going to be bad weather the rest of the week, so I wanted to try take advantage of the few spring flowers managing to actually bloom in our slow, cold spring. There's a house near the lake whose front lawn is covered with huge clumps of snow drops, so we went there, and I asked if I could take some photos among their flowers..... It wasn't the easiest thing to do, since their whole front lawn had plants coming up, so there really wasn't many places to carefully step. And I wasn't going to get down on the ground, so used my long lens. And I was a bit self-conscious figuring the home owners were probably watching.... But we did move Willie around between several different clumps of flowers....
Narae's friends, Maya and Narin, came to help clear out her studio to get ready for her art show. She had already taken almost everything down off the walls, and needed help to have all the furniture moved into the studio store room... ...and then the second cupboard....
This is how the magic happened........with some string and a stick..... This lower ground-level angle was more challenging, because it was hard to keep Jan's hands and the stick out of the photo. But it did hide the string. The first set of photos in the open meadow was easier, because I could shoot at eye level. Here's one of the photos before I got rid of the three strings.... Anyways, I thought it was quite successful, so could use that technique again.
Today we celebrate Easter... I didn't take any Easter photos this year, so will share a few favourites from the past.... One year they even had to hunt for Easter eggs in the snow.... And finally, a fun little Easter Chocolate Story from 2015 - Darth Chocolate
