Missy and Maisie were just about finished peeling their apples.... ...and Muffy was busy making the lattice work on the top of her pie.... "That's looks like it will be really yummy!" "With these last apples peeled, we'll need to make the pastry for the crust....." But when they went to measure out some flour....the bag was empty.... "There's not enough in here to make your pastry. What are you going to do??" But Kitty was prepared.... "I made sure I had lots extra...." "...so there'd be plenty enough for everything today..." "That's a relief!' Then Muffy went back to finishing the lattice work on her pie.... And a little while later it came out of the oven, perfectly baked.... Meanwhile, Tiana had successfully made some cinnamon rolls.... While Melody and Missy moved on to their next project....
Meanwhile the guys were still enjoying the afternoon playing games and drinking wine..... Chip and Smuzhka were enjoying chasing each other around the board, and knocking each off in a game of Sorry! "My turn!" Mr. Ropuha and Manny were in the middle of a challenging game of checkers... Manny pondered his next move.... ..while Ropuha enjoyed another glass of wine... "Your turn..."
Miss Kitty was helping Tiana, reading the recipe instructions, guiding her step by step through mixing the cookie dough.... ...while Jo went to get the rolling pin.... "It's ready to roll out now...." ...and they put the first tray into the oven... A little while later it smelled like something was burning. It was Tiana's cookies!! "They are totally burned!!" "Did you watch the time?" Tiana was so embarrassed...."No. I totally forgot about them!" "Well, here's the clock. When you put your next batch in, watch the time carefully..." So Jo put a new tray into the oven, and Tiana sat down with the clock.... She wasn't going to let them burn this time... "It's time to take them out..." ...and this time the cookies were perfect! "Great job!"
Being new to the Forest, and never having participated in the Foxes' Holiday event, Jo was looking for someone to help. But Ginger was rather shy, and preferred to work on her own... 'I appreciate the offer, but I'm sure there's someone else who could use your help more..." So she went over to Tiana, who seemed to be struggling. "Yes, I want to make some cookies, and would love some help." Meanwhile Kitty was making the rounds checking to see if everyone had what they needed.... "I'm cooking the filling for my tart..." Muffy asked Ginger to get down a mixing bowl for her... Maisie was busy choosing an apple... "I think these will be perfect." The kitchen was bustling with activity.... ...as Missy and Maisie started peeling their apples....
After the ladies left to the kitchen, Rhett pulled out some games. Manny challenged Rhett to a game of chess.... "Your turn..." Meanwhile Smuzhka, Chip and Max were playing a round of Snakes & Ladders.... "My turn..."
Everyone scattered with a job to do. Ginger checked a recipe... While the mice went to check on the produce... Miss Kitty approached Tiana... "I have an apron for you..." She knew Tiana wasn't much for cooking, and always 'forgot' to bring her apron in hopes that she could just watch. But Kitty was prepared with an apron just her size.... "Here you go..I have an apron just your size...." "It will help protect your pretty dress..." So Tiana reluctantly put it on.... "Here, let me tie that for you." Meanwhile Melody was checking out the strawberries... ...and Maisie, who was new to the goings on, was with Missy helping to choose some apples for her prize-winning tart... Jo was also looking to help someone..... "Would you like some help?"
With all the guests having arrived, it was time for all the ladies to go to the kitchen. For years now the Holiday Banquet had become a team effort. Miss Kitty, who was an amazing cook, decided on the recipes - some of her own and her friend's best - and made sure to have all the ingredients on hand. She was like a Martha Stewart of the Forest, and all the ladies looked forward to trying out her new recipes, and cooking together for the annual event. "I think we have a wonderful menu planned for today..." "I thought it would be nice this time for us all to work together to recreate some of your prize-winning recipes from this year's Fall Fair." "I brought the preserves you asked me to..." 'Well, we have a lot of work ahead, so let's get started. I hope everyone has a really good time."
