Wigs and Wings

1/28/2019

I'm working on several projects at once right now.

One of the jobs I like least, is making wig caps (and making wigs in general) but my Phairby needs at least two wigs, and I should take advantage of having my blank Lawrence head back home as well. I figured if I make two caps for Phairby, then I can make one wig in a colour matching her Fairy outfit, and the second in a natural colour. It's also a good time to make some more FID wig caps, so I'd have some on hand should I want to make a longer hairdo for a Fantasy or Historical figure. It's just that I hate messy, wet, projects, especially when it's so cold outside, so have been putting it off.....and off.... so I've finally forced myself to start. It's not like it's going to get done on it's own. Sigh.....

I'm also making two sets of wings. I was inspired by a painting I saw on facebook of a Snow Fairy with her animal companions, and figured it would make a nice challenge to try recreate it with Kassia and several of my white animals.  And then, since I was at it, I figured I'd make a pair of wings for Miho to go with her mint gown.

Both sets of wings will become one-piece units that tie on over the doll's costume, as opposed to hooking into pockets, or snapping onto the back. Neither of the two doll's gowns would work with either. So tying them on it is. I've been in a rush to finish the white wings, since we are expecting a big snowstorm any minute, and I'm hoping it's the perfect opportunity for some pictures.

I also really need to start an outfit for Phairby as well, but have been putting it off. Maybe I'll make another outfit for Willie first, just so I can get my head around making something so small.

Oh, and there was a shipping notice from Iplehouse last night, so my Daisy boy is on his way. Unfortunately he's coming blank, so that means another long wait ahead. But then, I can make him a wig and outfit first.

January 23rd was 'National Pie Day', and since the school buses were cancelled due to the bad weather, Coco got to help his Mom bake pies that afternoon....

With the last of the animals taken care of, and gone, it was time to clean up. Just in time too, since the women could be heard in the kitchen, getting ready for the day.

Dressing Gown

Well, the third attempt at Christine's dressing gown was still not perfect, but it's as good as it's going to get, and it's time to move on. I'm not normally one to say that "it's good enough", but this time it has to be.  I was still not totally happy with how the ruffles stood out, but was hoping that if I washed it, things would relax some. I took a photo of it before I washed it....
Picture
Well, it turns out that the fabric can't be just 100% cotton, since washing it didn't do anything to it. If it had been just cotton, everything would have relaxed and ended up with proper in-scale gathers and ruffles.  So I tried basting the lace edges down.....
