With all the new dolls I'm acquiring as costume models, I've decided to reorganize my 'For Sale' page and divide the clothing into separate size category pages. Right now there's an SD and MSD size page. Each of those will have two doll models, both with different proportions. Once I start making clothes for Cinnamon available, there will be a 'Tiny' category added. And when Cuprit comes and I start making clothes for her, there will also be a 'Super Gem' category. Of course, the more dolls there are, the fewer outfits each individual doll will get - I can only sew so much - I'm not a factory!
Well, all the Christmas decorations are all finally put away for another year, and I have my house back! I did some dusting and rearranging of dolls so that my bjds could stand out on display so I could enjoy them when I'm not working on them.
I finished Ryung's exotic orange outfit yesterday, and spent most of today beading a necklace to go with it, as well as a second one for Asa. There's still enough embroidered sari fabric left over to make at least two more outfits! One will be for Cuprit but she hasn't arrived yet so I can't start that one. Maybe it's time to make the fairy outfit for Cinnamon - the one I bought an elaborate gold fabric poinsettia for - and that will go with the wild mohair wig I just posted a tutorial for. Took a photo of my doll family today. There's Ryung in back, holding little Cinnamon, and Narae and Asa holding hands in front. They make a nice little group in front of my tree.
Now that the decorations are gone for another year, and I'm finally on some serious medications to fight my pneumonia and ear infection, I'm hoping to feel well enough soon to really start making some new exciting outfits. I have plenty of plans: some snow goddesses and fairies, Christine from Phantom of the Opera, some Celtic Warrior maidens, some late 18th century Marie-Antoinette ensembles, and some medieval fantasy gowns. Oh, and I have to have all sizes of fairy costumes ready for spring. Those meds better start working quick!! I still need a name for the ensemble, but my very first outfit made from an Indian dress and sari is finished. I made a sleeveless dress with one of the embroidered medallions hand-stitched onto the bodice, and hand-beaded the neckline. The arms needed something so I made separate sleeves from two more medallions and beaded the upper and lower edges.
Now I'm tempted to make another larger version for Ryung. This is the first new outfit I made for Ryung since she came back from the spa - a red and green plaid Christmas dress with a simulated lace 'pinafore' - it's just I haven't felt well enough to take any photos. I managed to take a few this morning and she looks so beautiful, but I'm clearly not ready for any serious photography yet, so I'll have to try again later.
Like I said before - my tree isn't coming down until I get those Christmas shots! I've been working on making Asa an outfit from parts of the Indian dress and sari. It's the very first time I've ever cut into one, and it's surprising how poor some of the workmanship is when you look at the original clothes up close - it's probably more about making a colourful, sparkly statement from a distance! It's a challenge working with the larger beaded, applique pieces, and I line everything that will touch the doll with cotton since I don't know how colourfast the Indian dyes are. Now to make a slip to go underneath and the outfit will be done.
It's finally snowing out, and I think my next project should be something snow-related. I've also started knitting new chain-mail sleeves for one of the two Celtic Maiden outfits that I started last fall. I've decided to make one of the outfits for a standard SD size doll, and the second for a taller Super Gem. So I took the shorter of the two pleated skirts and cut off the waistband in order to add an extension so it will hang the correct length. Wishing everyone a very happy and prosperous new year!!
The very first thing I need to do this new year is make something for Asa to wear - and take those Christmas portraits while the tree is still up! I drafted a bodice pattern but then got side-tracked draping saris around her to see what would look nice. Then, of course, I had to take photos because she looked so exotic! I'm really starting to get used to using a tri-pod for photography these days, and it's so nice to have models that don't move!
