David's Birthday

My KID David was due a first year anniversary birthday party this year. It was well past his actual arrival date (January 31st) and even the day he came home after getting painted (some time in April), but in some regards it's good I didn't throw him a party sooner, since back then he was just an ordinary, contemporary KID, with the prospect of just another ho hum party.

But by the time I got around to it, he had become part of a Royal family, and as the eldest son, his birthday would be celebrated in a style befitting a Crown Prince.

Getting Ready

The kitchen staff had been busy all week, the table was being set up in the great hall, and the servants were finishing up the details.  Maya and Narae were busy hanging up some festive garlands....

Getting Seated

It was the evening before David's birthday, and the family had gathered for a special, private, birthday banquet.  Everyone was in their seats, when Lawrence motioned for David to come up to the head of the table....
Picture
"Since it's your birthday, you and I will switch places this evening, and you will have the place of honour at the end of the table..."

David was surprised.....
Picture
It was his father's, the King's, place at the end of the table...
Picture
He knew it was quite an honour.....and everyone was watching....

So he sat down....

"How does it feel?", asked Lady Grace...

"Good..."

But with everyone at the table staring at him, he couldn't help but feel a little self-conscious...

Dinner Buddies

But with David seated at the head of the table....
Picture
Ringo was feeling a bit let down. He idolized his big brother and they always sat beside each other...
and now he was sitting so far away.....

Picture
But then his Dad came and sat down beside him in David's seat....
Picture
Picture
"Looks like we get to sit beside each other..."

"...and keep each other company this evening."

'You sure are one lucky boy."
Picture
And suddenly Ringo didn't feel quite so lonely....

the Birthday Banquet

Dinner began...
Picture
David had asked if they could have roast turkey legs.......his favourite....
Picture
So, of course, Ringo, who had to do everything his big brother did, took a big drumstick too...
Picture
"Are you sure you'll be able to finish that whole thing?"
Picture
Picture
The ladies were not quite so enthusiastic about a huge drumstick....
Picture
So Rosie had made some delicate meat pies for them instead....
Picture
Meanwhile Nami was telling her Uncle Rex all about Rags, her new kitty...
..who had joined her at the table...."Mom let me keep him."
Picture
" He's the best kitty ever!   ....I really love him!"
Picture
"Yes, I can see that..."
Picture
Picture
Paige and David were at the end of the table...
Picture
...near their Aunt Grace....
Picture
...who was trying hard to start a conversation......"So, how is school?"
Picture

A Toast

Lawrence and Baron were talking......"Excuse me for a moment.."
Picture
Lawrence stood up......"I'd like to give a toast to the birthday boy..."
Picture
"To David....your Mother and I couldn't be more proud of the wonderful young man you are becoming.
Here's to you, with hope for another great year."
Picture
"Yes, to you David, with all our love..."
Picture
Picture

Picture
"Cheers!"
