David's Birthday Banquet - continued
Everyone was having a great time at David's birthday banquet....

"I can't finish this, Mom..."
"Well, you know our rule about food....if you take it, then you need to eat it..."
"I know, but it just looked so good...."
"Well, maybe Shadow would be willing to help you out..."
Shadow was the family 'dog'. He was actually a wolf.
Lawrence had come across him on a hunting trip. Poachers had killed his whole family, and had left the lone little cub crying over his mother's body. So Lawrence took him home and raised him. At first he would run and hide in any dark corner, so Lawrence named him Shadow. Now that he was all grown, he was as gentle and loyal as any dog....
But Ringo still felt a little nervous approaching him....after all Shadow was almost as big as him..
"It's okay. He won't bite..."

So Ringo gathered up all his courage....
..and came around....
"Here boy....would you like this turkey leg?"
But Shadow could sense that Ringo was a little nervous, so just quietly sat where he was....
"It's okay boy...."
"...Mom said I could give it to you..."
A Gift for David
After the dinner, everyone gathered out on the terrace, so the staff could clear the table, and set up inside the great hall for dessert and dancing. Then Lawrence presented his son with a gift...
"We have a special gift for you..."
David was all excited....
Everyone was watching...
"It's from your Mother and me..."
"Oh wow! Thank you!'
David wondered what it could be.....
He knew what he hoped it would be, and it was the right shape.....
He was almost too excited to open it....
A Junior Knight
David ripped open his gift...
"It's a sword!"
"Yes. I had it made specially for you.."
"Wow! I love it!"
And he strapped it on right away....
David felt so proud....
"Our son is growing up so fast..."
David pulled his sword from the scabbard....
His Dad and uncles did the same...
"We have a new, young knight in the family!"
