Mr. Ropuha decided that Valentine's Day would be the perfect day to propose to his beloved Tiana. So he got a beautiful heart-shaped cake, a big box of chocolates, a bouquet of roses, then spread petals and flowers around to create the perfect romantic atmosphere.... Then he got down on one knee....."Will you marry me?"
This morning Ringo headed back to school for the first time after being sick for weeks.... And it was the perfect opportunity for some tips on photographing moving vehicles in the background, and making them look in scale to the dolls. We had a LOT of snow on Sunday, so there were huge piles of snow at the end of the driveway by the road - but not quite as high as I would have liked, as it meant I'd have to crouch down to photograph the dolls which I'd positioned on the top of the snow pile. I waited for the buses to come by. There's a school just eight houses down the street - the school driveway is right behind those two big evergreen trees in the distance - and a bus is pulling in... I had wanted school buses in the background of my photo, but they had to be just the right distance away, and they are constantly moving, so I have to wait for just the right moment. When the buses are still far in the background, they work out just fine, and look in scale..... As the buses get closer they start to look bigger, and they can quickly become out of scale. It would have been better if I'd been able to get down lower, but I couldn't. However, with a bus passing right beside the snow pile, it appeared WAY too big.... So when shooting outside, and there's cars going by in the background, it's
important to keep scale in mind, and shoot when the vehicles are not too close. And take lots of photos so that at least one will turn out. It's been snowing here all day, so it's finally looking like winter.
Tillie & Cinnamon wanted to go out for a walk in it.... Michael's had all their 'Garden Miniatures' on sale last week, so Jan insisted on buying the tiny barbecue. It is the perfect scale for my little mice. They decided to try it out today, even though it was snowing quite hard..... It smelled so good!
Finally took some pictures of the outfits I made in January while I was ill. I started with knitting a KID-size sweater set using the leftovers from two other sweaters - purple, green, and blue yarn combos. Then decided to make another KID sweater set using a new ball this time - bright mixed colours. Then I made matching tights, T-shirts and jumpers. The outfits are ultimately for my two new KIDs, Paige and Angela, who still haven't been painted. But Lisa and Peach offered to model them for me, so I could see how they looked.... Then I went smaller, knitting a sweater for Tillie, and then an even smaller one for Cinnamon. I decided the two of them finally needed some 'contemporary' clothes, and that included warm sweater sets for when it's cold outside. Both sweater sets are made from the final remnants of previous sweaters. They were a big challenge - especially Cinnamon's tiny sweater - because I had to piece together all the coloured stripes and there were so many loose ends, it looked more like I was making a yarn doll wig than a sweater. It took hours to weave in all the loose yarn ends.
Well, I decided it's high time to get back to my hybrid 'old man', whose going to be both a Santa and a Wizard. I made him a hard wig cap in the end of November, but then things ground to a halt. I decided at the time I didn't want to rush a Santa, so put him on hold and then he could start out 2017 as a Wizard. Well, I finished my January projects, and it's time to address my old guy.
I figured the clothes would be a good place to start. I'm still somewhat intimidated by doing his beard, and making his wig, so if I get all inspired making his clothes, then I'll WANT to tackle his beard and hair., so he'll finally be finished. At least that's my plan. So I undressed my old Wizard figure I made way back in 1989 to see how his clothes fit my new guy. The shoulders are way too wide, and the sleeves way too long, but the style looks great.... It's been such a dull, drab January, that I was in serious need for a flower fix, so we went to the nursery the other day, in hopes of taking some flower pictures. But there weren't a lot of flowers, especially not in the cool greenhouse where they have all the potted spring bulbs. There was just one pot of tulips in bloom.... Some heather, a few azaleas in bud, and a couple of miniature roses....
Ringo was tired of being sick, and being stuck at home all day. Every morning he'd stand in the front window and watch as the school buses came up the street..... ...and go right past, without stopping to pick him up. Not that they ever stopped for him in the first place, since he lived just eight houses away
from the school. But many of his friends were on the buses, and he missed them. Ringo was starting to feel better, and had to start on the homework his friends had brought... "There's such a lot....." "Well, you don't have to do it all at once. Here's some lunch."
