the Teddy Bears Picnic
Instead of just one or two shots for 'Teddy Bears Picnic Day', I thought I'd do a little story. And what better place to have a Teddy Bears Picnic, than in the woods up north? We found the perfect little spot along a path through the woods at the Killarney lighthouse.
Invitations had been sent, and children started arriving with their teddy bears....
Bonnie and Elin brought a whole wagon full of teddies.....
The others were already there with their Teddies. They had laid out a picnic cloth, set up a table covered with all kinds of treats - sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, and all manner of yummy cakes and pastries. What fun this was going to be!
The children and all their teddies were having a fine time at their picnic....
Erzulie was trying to decide which donut to choose....
....and Elin was about to reach for a hot dog....
.....when suddenly there was a noise behind them, and they all turned to look....
It's a Bear!!!
... a big black bear looking directly at them....
"He's coming this way!"
"Everybody RUN!!!!"
They all got out of there as fast as they could.....
...leaving behind all their teddies.....and all the food.....
The children ran from the bear, but when they realized he wasn't following them,
they turned and peered from the bushes to see what he was up to....
they turned and peered from the bushes to see what he was up to....
The bear had made himself comfortable on their bench, and was sampling all their treats...
Efreet had had enough. "The park ranger says people should never run from a bear, but should back away slowly.
If it charges them, they should confront it, making themselves as big as possible, and yelling loudly, to scare it off.
There's six of us, and just one of him, and he's eating all our food! I'm going to go scare him off. Who's coming with me?"

Erzulie and Bonnie went with Efreet to confront the bear.
"Hey you! Bear! What are you doing eating all our treats? Who do you think you are invading on our picnic like this?!?
You weren't invited! We don't want you here! GO AWAY!!!!"

The bear started to cry.....
"I'm so sorry," sobbed the bear. " I didn't mean to scare anyone, or chase you away. I was hungry and lonely, and so happy to see you all. A couple of days ago, my Mom left to look for berries..... and she never came back. I went to look for her, but couldn't find her. Then I heard you in the woods, and I smelled all the delicious food. I was so happy, and hoping you might share some..."
"Oh my!" said Nami, "That's so sad. I had no idea."
"You poor bear! You must be starving! Of course we'll share with you....."
.....and Erzulie offered him the biggest slice of watermelon she could find....

The bear wiped away his tears, and took the watermelon, as Erzulie sat down beside him...
Efreet straightened up all the teddies that had been knocked over, and sat down too.
Bonnie and Byuri also came and joined them. Byuri picked up all the spilled donuts
and put them back into the box, and Bonnie helped herself to a hotdog
and put them back into the box, and Bonnie helped herself to a hotdog
Everyone was happy to get back to their picnic....and that they had made a new friend.....
..except for Elin, who was still cautiously watching from the bushes.
Her parents had always warned her to be wary of strangers.
Her parents had always warned her to be wary of strangers.
But I don't think it will be very long before she realizes that this 'stranger'
is just a new friend she just hadn't met yet. Then she will join them too.

the Teddy Bears Picnic
If you go out in the woods today
, you're sure of a big surprise.
If you go out in the woods today , you'd better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was , will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.
Picnic time for teddy bears. The little teddy bears are having a lovely time today.
Watch them, catch them unawares, and see them picnic on their holiday.
See them gaily dance about. They love to play and shout. And never have any cares.
At six o'clock their mommies and daddies , will take them home to bed
Because they're tired little teddy bears.
If you go out in the woods today, you'd better not go alone.
It's lovely out in the woods today, but safer to stay at home.
For every bear that ever there was , will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic .
Every teddy bear, that's been good , is sure of a treat today
There's lots of wonderful things to eat , and wonderful games to play
Beneath the trees, where nobody sees , they'll hide and seek as long as they please
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic .
