St. Nicholas
My Wizard looked so good as a Bishop, that I decided to make him a St. Nicholas 'costume'.
He already moonlights as Santa Claus on occasion, but there's way more traditional Christmas figures than the American Santa Claus. There's Father Christmas, Pere Noel, Kris Kringle, Father Frost, and St. Nicholas. Even though in North America all those names are used interchangeably for Santa Claus, they are in truth all individual, unique characters with their own traditions.
I used the coat from my old Wizard figure that he wears as a Bishop, and made him a beige, lace-edged tunic to wear underneath. I also added some trim to one side of his miter hat to turn it into a cross. Then I sculpted a staff, but I preferred the one my old art doll St.Nicholas had, so traded them.
St. Nicholas traditionally arrives with his white horse, on December 5th, from Spain. That evening he rides his horse across the roof tops, while his servants deliver small gifts down the chimneys to all the good children.
He's also a much older character, dating way back to the twelfth century, so he'll be able to appear in my Medieval Fantasy world in future stories.
Formal Portraits
I needed a formal portrait of St. Nicholas for my Fashions book, so took several photos of him with different backgrounds....
St. Nicholas at the Castle
It was St. Nicholas Eve and Lawrence and Monica had invited all their nephews and nieces to the castle to welcome him...
All the children were very excited...
..and gathered round him...
While their parents watched...
...remembering just how exciting it had been for them when they were their children's age.
St. Nicholas with the Children
St. Nicholas sat down so he could visit with the children on their own level, and give them their gifts.
Even though Lisa was currently living at Miho's castle, as a member of Bianca's family she been invited as well.
Judith sat on his knee...
Their parents watched as each of their children happily received a small gift...
The girls loved their gifts...
"hank you!"
Then Judith went to show her mother. "Look what he gave me! A candy cane!'
Disappointment
With Judith having gone off to show her mother her candy cane, Bonnie was next to sit on St. Nicholas' knee...
Grace was so proud of her little girl...
St. Nicholas had given her a small doll...
But not everyone was happy. Ringo had received a small rocking horse toy, while his brother David had received a wooden soldier...
He was jealous of David's toy soldier.
Their parents couldn't help but notice.
"Oh Ringo..." sighed his mother.
"At least all the other children are happy."added his father.
Moving On
After visiting with the children at the King's castle, it was time for St. Nicholas to leave.
After all, there were more castles to visit....
