Quest part 5 - Return to the Village
The continuing story of Byuri and her mother as they journey back to their village
Starting the Journey Home
Byuri had finally been reunited with her mother ..
and she sadly watched her new friends leave.
Now she faced another arduous journey with her mother back home to their village....
Bandon Beach
Byuri and her mother reached the coast...
It was so much easier walking along the beach, than through the forest.
Ruby Beach
As they continued up the coast, the shore became increasingly stonier....
The cobble beach was a lot harder to walk on....
So they would rest often.
Totem Poles
The two of them struggled through the dense coastal rain forest....
...and came across a sacred native site...
...with many totem poles.
Byuri thought they were beautiful.
"We must be very respectful as we pass through here."
Pacific Rim
Byuri and her mother continued on through the endless rain forest....
...and came out on another wide sand beach. The tide was out...
..and they sat down to take a rest....
They continued on along the beach. "We should probably stop soon and rest for the night."
After the sun had gone down, they watched the moon set behind the distant mountains....
Thunderbird Park
The next day they came across a native village....
But there was no-one there.
"Looks like everyone has moved on to their summer berry-picking grounds."
Byuri found the totem poles fascinating.
They were so different than the ones she had seen a few days earlier....
She found it so interesting that every area had their own unique style.
'We'll stop here for the night, and continue on again tomorrow."
Back Home
The next day they finally arrived at their own village....
But there was no one there. They were all away at their summer camp.
Still, it was good to be home,
and they went inside....
Byuri's pups who had been wandering around the village, were only too happy to see her, and followed her inside.
"I really missed you."
By the Fire
Byuri's Mother started a fire, and they both sat down....
It was so nice and warm and cozy by the fire...
"I'm so happy that we are both home together again."
"Me too. My new friends were very nice...
But I'm really happy to be home again."
Dinner Time
Byuri's Mother got up...
"I'm going to make us something to eat.."
"It will be ready soon."
When dinner was ready they both sat down by the fire....
"I know it's not much, but I hope you like it."
"When I was with my new friends, I ate all kinds of interesting new things."
"But I missed what you make...
...because that's my favourite.."
Bed Time
With dinner over and it getting late, it was time for Byuri to go to bed.....
"I'm so glad to be home with you Momma. When I was lost in the forest I was so scared I'd never see you again."
"Well, we found each other, and you're safe now."
"So, try and get some sleep. Tomorrow we will go on to join everyone else at the summer camp."
A little while later Byuri woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. Her Mother came over to sit with her.
"What's the matter?"
"What's the matter?"
"Do you think I'll ever see my new friends again? I miss them."
"I don't know. Maybe. Before they left one of your friends asked me if it would be all-right if he could keep in touch and write you a letter from time to time."
"I told him that would be nice. You would like that. And you can write to him. We can bring a letter to the Trading Post when we go by there every spring and fall, and see if there's a letter for you as well."
"So, go to sleep now. We need to get up early in the morning."
