A collection of photos featuring my dragons
At the Library
The little dragons loved books, and could spend hours in the library....
Nuri loved fairytales and stories about animals....
Whereas Sparkle was fascinated by da Vinci's notebooks.....
Elliot was always looking for something new to read....
Gifts for the Kids
It was a few days after the little dragon's first birthday, when Winston arrived home from work with a pile of gifts....
"Wow! Are those for us, Dad?"
"Yes, they are. They are belated birthday gifts."
"From whom? Who are they from?" asked Saphira
"From their Uncle Narin."
Gifts from Narin
The kids were so excited, especially when they opened the gifts....
"Look at all the paint!"
"And the brushes"
Saphira wasn't too pleased. "What's this? Why has he sent us all this paint? It was hard enough to clean the kids all up last time, and I really don't want to go through that again."
"Don't worry," replied Winston. "He sent along aprons to help keep them clean."
"Narin thought, that even though he didn't like what they did to his studio, it was clear that our kids really enjoyed playing with paint. And after you gave him your jewels to pay for our portrait and to replace his lost paint, he said there was more than enough to buy all new supplies,"
"...so he thought he'd send all his old paints and brushes, for our children to use."
"And I promise to make sure they don't make a big mess like last time...."
"So you won't have to do any clean up."
Getting Ready
So, with the kids all excited about their new paints, Winston decided to let them have a try. He set up the easels Narin had sent along, and covered the floor with newspaper.....
Saphira was not amused.
"It will be fine dear. I have everything under control"
"I hope so!"
"We promise not to make a mess Mom."
"Just go away and relax somewhere." suggested Winston, "I have this."
But she lingered as Winston helped everyone on with their art aprons, and they got ready to paint
"Now, remember..."
"The paint ONLY goes on your paintings."
"And absolutely nowhere else."
"Yes, Mom..."
Painting
So, Saphira left to busy herself elsewhere, while Winston let the kids paint.
The kids were having a great time...
Under Winston's watchful eye...
And the kids were being really good...
They did get paint on their aprons and on the newspaper....
Elliot even tried some finger painting...
Scorch went a step further, and used his hands and feet to create a tulip garden....
Showing Mom
A while later, Saphira returned, fully expecting a big mess....
But there wasn't one. And the kids were all excited to show her what they had done...
"Look what we did!"
"These are really colourful."
"I painted this one for you Mama..."
"My favourite flowers! Thank you Scorch."
Winston was smiling inside, thinking how well their first painting session had gone.
the Expert
Winston told Narin just how much his kids were enjoying the art supplies that he'd sent, but he voiced concern about how they seemed to mostly just mindlessly slap the paint around. Which was all fun and good, but he was concerned the paint would get all used up before the kids had made any advances in their artistic expression. So he asked Naron for advice, and he offered to come to Winston's home and give his kids some art lessons. They also decided to include Emily and Avery, and everything was set up and the kids were sitting anxiously waiting as Narin arrived.
"I hear you've been having a lot of fun with the paints, and your Dad has asked me to come and give you some more advanced art lessons."
He picked up the dragon figure from the cupboard.
"I'd like to introduce you to some life drawing today. I've chosen this dragon as my model, but I suggest you choose one of your favourite toys. Then just do your best to draw it...."
"I'd like to introduce you to some life drawing today. I've chosen this dragon as my model, but I suggest you choose one of your favourite toys. Then just do your best to draw it...."
"You can choose to draw the whole thing, and add a background....like I did here..."
"...or you can just do a close up....like I did here."
"The choice is yours."
"Wow!! Those are really good!" commented Emily.
"We're never going to be able to do anything like that."
"That's fine. Just do whatever you can, And remember, I didn't start out drawing like this when I was your age either. The whole idea is to have some fun. And you'll get better at it the more you do it."
Still Lifes
Narinnhad suggested everyone try drawing one of their favourite toys, so they all chose one, and set to work...
Another Challenge
After having successfully drawn and painted some of their toys, Narin suggested the kids try painting each other....
But Sparkle wanted to do another painting of her dragon pull toy...
And Emily wanted to do a portrait of her bear...
Narin and Winston were quite pleased...
It was amazing what the kids could do, given just a bit of direction.
Showing Their Moms
At the end of the afternoon, Daisy arrived to pick up her twins, and she and Saphira went to see what their kids had done...
Saphira was impressed...
"They've all done an excellent job." said Narin.
"They certainly have!" exclaimed Saphira.
Daisy went to take a closer look at Emily's painting....
"I painted my Teddy."
Then Daisy went to take a closer look at Avery's painting...
..who had painted a portrait of one of his dragon friends...
All the kids lined up to show their Moms all their paintings...
It had been a very successful afternoon. Everyone had had a great time, and they were all very proud of what they had done...
