Special Days in June
A continuing series of photos celebrating lesser known special days....
Donut Day
The first Friday in June is 'Donut Day', which fell on the 4th this year, so Phairby and the mice got together to partake in some of their favourite varieties from the various donut establishments....
A Hug for Rags
June 4th was also 'Hug your Cat Day'....
Chocolate Ice Cream Day
June 7th was 'National Chocolate Ice Cream Day', so I made up some cones for the girls and told them to take them outside.
But it was so hot out that the ice cream melted before they could even eat it....
Although Cinnamon's chocolate dipped ice cream did fare better.
Raillie's melted down her dress...
So much for Chocolate Ice Cream Day!
Only Rags seemed happy....
Going for a Swim
On June 11th, Tiana came across Mr Ropuha, stark naked by the fountain. "What are you doing?"
It's ' National Swimming Pool Day' today, so I thought I'd go for a swim, but this fountain isn't big enough for my floatie...
"Well, the bird bath is big enough, so why not go there instead? And I'll join you!"
So they went....
"What a great idea!"
'This is the life!!"
"Some more wine, sweetheart?"
"Yes, please!"
A Rose
June 12th was 'National Red Rose Day', so Eden picked one of my roses to present to his love....
Baking Cookies
June 12th was also 'National Peanut Butter Cookie Day', so some of the girls decided to bake up a batch...
"Would you like one too?"
"Yes please, as soon as I finish mixing this up..."
the Doll Collection
June 12th is also World Doll Day, and Holly poses with her collection....
the Garbage Man
June 17th was 'Global Garbage Man Day', and falling on a Thursday, which is our real garbage and recycling day, I decided to follow Owen (who was temporarily helping out at the local waste disposal department) as he made his rounds around town.....
Father's Day
It was Father's Day, and being the great Dad that he was, Steve promised each of his kids that he'd spend some special time with each of them. He should have given them all a time when he could give sole attention to one at a time. Instead they all wanted his attention at the same time....
"You promised to come to my doll's tea party..."
"We even saved a seat for you!"
"But you said that you'd play trains with me!!"
What was he to do?
"Giddyup horsey!!"
Collecting Shells
June 21st is National Seashell Day, and found Layla, Missy, and Talyssa down at the beach collecting shells....
Skateboarding
Yesterday, June 21st, was also 'National Go Skateboarding Day'. I looked everywhere for my bigger skateboard but couldn't find it. I only found the two tiny ones, so Mannie Mouse and Mr. Ropuha wanted to try them out. They went to the Civic Center where there were lots of walkways....
"Have you ever done this before?"
"No, but I'm willing to give it a try..."
So they stepped onto their boards....
...and off they went....
"This is fun!!"
"It sure beats hopping!"
"Wheeee...!!"
Fairies
June 24th is International Fairy Day, and what better day to reveal Miho's new look as Fairy Queen...
Sunglasses
June 27th is National Sunglasses Day, and where would they come in more useful than on a bright sunny day at the beach, with the glare off the sand and water?
Lonnie and Bonnie were making sandcastles, and Bonnie had on her sunglasses...
But Lonnie just had hers perched up on her hat....
the Photographer
June 29th, is National 'Camera Day', featuring Baron as a temporary photographer....
Mud
June 29th, is also 'International Mud Day', and what could be more fun for little boys than jumping in puddles and getting covered up to the ears in mud?
Like at a construction site after a rain storm....
Every Child Matters
On June 30th radio stations across the country came together to give a voice to our indigenous people, after the horrific discovery earlier that month, of the hundreds of unmarked graves at the sites of former Indian Residential schools in British Columbia and Saskatchewan....
Over a period of a century, one hundred and fifty thousand Indigenous children were taken from their families and sent to Residential schools. There they lost their culture, their language, their traditions, and teachings, and many were subjected to unspeakable abuse. Thousands lost their lives.
It's a shameful, horrific, dark part of our country's history, as the truth comes out.
