Finger Painting

Time flew by, and before they knew it, it was already time for their next art class.

Narae had found some art smocks, which would offer quite a bit more protection than the aprons. Three of the girls put them on.

What would they be doing today?  All the chairs were missing, and the table surfaces were covered with newspapers.
 "I think something very messy!"
Picture
"Today we are going to do some finger-painting.  Each of you will do two sheets in your favourite colours.
Then, when they are dry, we will be doing something fun with them."
Picture
Ringo wasn't too sure he was going to like this....and reluctantly spread a bit of paint on his paper
Picture
The others got into it right away, and each time they finished a sheet, they brought it over to Narae to hang up so it could dry....
Picture
"We have to make TWO???"
Picture
Nyssa loved it, and was soon working on her second sheet....
Picture
Chloe did a second sheet....and Ringo started to relax and decided it was maybe 'fun' after all....
Picture
Picture
Nyssa's second sheet was finished too....
Picture
Picture
And Bonnie was finished hers as well....
Picture
The last sheets were hung up to dry....
Picture
Everyone was finished their finger-painting, and it was time to clean up....
Picture
Picture
First a wipe with some paper towels....
Picture
Then everyone needed a good hand washing.
Unfortunately there was no sink in the studio, so Narae had set up a big tub of soapy water for everyone to wash their hands.....
Picture
Picture
All the wet newspapers and paper-towels had to go in the garbage....

When all the paint had been cleaned up, and the room was back in order...

"I'm sure you all love the colourful books by Eric Carle....like;  'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?';
'Polar Bear, Polar Bear. What Do You Hear?'; and of course, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.
Did you know that Eric Carle makes all the pictures for his books by
cutting and pasting pieces of paper that he's painted?"
Picture
Picture
"Well, that's what we are going to do now. We are going to make our own 'Hungry Caterpillar' pictures from the sheets of finger-painted paper we just made. You may use any of the finger-painted papers, even if it's not one you made yourself. We are going to share all of them. You can take any of the coloured sheets, cut off a piece, and then hang it back up so the next person can use it."
Picture
So they all started to work....cutting and gluing....

Before too long, everyone was almost finished. There were just a few details to add with coloured pencils...
Picture
Picture
Then everyone gathered for a group photo with their pictures.....
Picture
And an individual portrait with their caterpillar.
Nyssa's looked most like the one on the cover of Eric Carle's book, while Chloe made a very fat blue one.....
Picture
Picture
Holly chose to make her caterpillar purple, orange and red, and Ringo decided to use every colour.....
Picture
Picture
While Efreet went a more 'natural' route, and Bonnie decided to make her 'caterpillar' metamorphosed into a butterfly.....

Best friends with their caterpillars....

Another successful class!

That weekend, the workers finally came to put up the wall to separate her studio from the rest of the building,
and Narae hung up everyone's Caterpillar art.....
