Casual Monica

Before taking the photos of Monica in her conservatory, I had made her a new, more casual outfit. I thought she wouldn't always be wearing one of her elaborate regal red gowns, but should have something a little less formal to wear at home....

Three Ladies

Another portrait photo, this time of the three ladies with some the most elaborate gowns I've made, all with the beaded dagged sleeves; Sarah, Agnes, and Miho.....

Their skirts and hanging sleeves are all of fancy velour, which drapes beautifully. Agnes' gown was made using the same pattern designed for Miho's gown, while Sarah's is a version of my Elf Gown pattern.

However, as much as I loved the velour, it's a thick fabric, and would be too thick and out of scale close to their faces - like a human having a bodice made out of short fake fur - so I used thinner satins and brocades for their bodices.

the Vigil

I use candles in many of my scenes. They are 4" vigil candles, and burn down rather quickly, so need to be replaced often. I save the most interesting little stubs, and finally had an idea for how to use them. To prevent the wax from melting all over my floor cloth, I first put down a large sheet of glass. I posed Bianca in a kneeling position with the help of a stand inside her dress so there was no chance she'd fall forward, and far enough back that she was nowhere near the candles on the floor. I lit all the candles on the floor first, and then finally the long one she was holding in her hand, which extended far enough out that there was no chance of any wax dripping on her skirt.

the Barbarians

My son in law 3-D printed a helmet for my dolls. So, I sprayed it silver and then mellowed it with brown paint. The helmet was a touch too small to fit over Jude's wig comfortably. So I decided to take some photos of him just holding it...

The helmet did fit over my FID men's heads - even with their wig - as FID men have slightly smaller heads than the SartoriaJ guys. But there was no way I was going to do a costume switch, and then I Realized I could just swap their heads. I chose Lawrence with his longer red hair. The helmet fit comfortably over his wig without touching his face....

Then I took another photo with him just holding it, and he temporarily became a Barbarian King...

Meanwhile, Jude was temporarily a Prince....
