FIDs Everyday

A collection of photos featuring my FIDs going about their business....

Lawrence and Miho

Just a few photos of the two of them together....then and now. Miho was my my first FID lady, ordered when Iplehouse introduced their very first three FIDs, and Lawrence was one of the first three guys. They were originally ended to be a 'couple'. But they never clicked.  He got a new faceup and became a King, while she became Queen of the Fairies...

Making an Outfit for Baron

After finishing her own wedding gown, Naomi started on Baron's wedding outfit....
Picture
She chose brown and gold fabrics to compliment her own gown....
Picture
She had asked Baron to come for a fitting...
Picture
Picture
"I'll need you to take your shirt off..."
Picture
"Nice trim..."
Picture
"I hoped you'd like it.   Could you try on the surcoat first, please?"
Picture
Picture
"Just have to double check your arm length..."
Picture
Picture
"Now, if you could take it back off and try on the shirt....
Picture
"It's not quite done yet, but I just need to check how it fits so far...."
Picture
Picture
"How does it feel?"
Picture
"It feels great..."
Picture
"Except...."
Picture
"...this arm is going to get rather cold."
Picture
Naomi smiled...."You're so silly!"

Baron's Wedding Suit

Naomi had finished Baron's wedding suit, and he came in for a final fitting. First the shirt....
Picture
...then he put on the surcoat.
Picture
Naomi thought he looked incredibly handsome....
Picture
Picture
..and felt a bit flustered...
Picture
...as she pretended to check the length of his sleeves...
Picture
"So, what do you think?"
Picture
Picture
"It's perfect..."
Picture
"...and I can't wait to wear it again on our wedding day."

Narin's New Look

I ordered my Narin back in 2013 as part of D-Storic's 'End of Contract' sale, and have done very little with him. He ended up with a blonde Johnny wig, wearing a copy of a 'Hobbit' commission.
Picture
He's appeared as an extra in several stories, but after my Butterfly Narae (who was also ordered during that same sale back in 2013) started appearing in stories featuring my Fashion sized dolls, I decided that it was high time Narin was finally given a makeover so he could play a male servant in everyone's castle. I've been avoiding pairing any of my regular MSD and JIDs with my Fashion sized dolls because of the inconsistency in head sizes, but Narae and Narin have much smaller head that most other MSD size dolls, so they would work just fine with them.

So I started by making him a new wig. And he appeared with Narae in the Winter Patrol story...

Then in April I decided to finally make him a better outfit all his own....

A New Shirt for Rex

So I've been slowly getting my dolls ready for the upcoming wedding. After making the three flower girl dresses, the next project was to make a new 'formal' top for Rex.  I'd already made new, formal tops for Baron and Lawrence back at Christmas, but hadn't gotten around to Rex yet.

Back when I made his knight costume, I had started a tunic out of a blue brocade, but I decided that the pattern was too 'bright', so started over using the same fabric, but on the wrong side where the pattern wasn't as strong. I still had that rejected tunic, and decided to use it instead of starting from scratch.

So I finished the collar, adding a tiny white ruffle at the neck, and made under-sleeves.
Picture
Then with his surcoat over it, and he's ready to attend the wedding.
Picture
The whole time he was standing in my work space while I was working on his new top, he insisted on holding one of the babies I was also working on at the time. He held that baby for almost two weeks, and every day Jan would comment on how he must be  getting really sore arms. LOL  Personally, I think Rex just likes babies...and will be talking to Bianca soon about having another....

More New Clothes

It's interesting that back in the winter when I first started thinking about Baron and Naomi's wedding, I thought it would be nice if the court ladies could get some new gowns for the occasion.  But it turned out that the men needed new outfits more. They couldn't - or shouldn't - go in chainmail or armour.

So, after making Rex a new tunic, I needed to make Jude a more formal tunic to replace his leather armour. He would wear it with the rest of his 'Braveheart' outfit, so I wanted the new tunic colours to match. I chose a dark navy fabric, and a dull gold brocade for the under sleeves.

I added a white ruffle at the collar, to simulate a shirt being worn underneath, but it just didn't look right to me after I sewed it in. It was too high. He didn't strike me as a very 'frilly' sort of guy, so I ended up removing and shortening the ruffle, not once, but twice, until I was finally happy with it.
Picture
His son, Jamie, also didn't have anything appropriate to wear to a wedding, so I had to make him an entirely new outfit. I actually made the turquoise top twice.  It was a really flimsy brocade, so I thought of using a soft interfacing to reinforce it. But the top ended up way too stiff for such a small doll. So I started over, and only used the interfacing around the shoulder area so the fabric wouldn't distort when I sewed on the trims. It turned out much better.

Naomi's Outfit

An update on the outfits I was working on for Naomi.   I finished the new scarf for her sweater set, and liked it much better. I also sewed two plain shirts to wear underneath; a white and a light blue one. Then I took a photo...
Picture
I'm glad I decided to unravel and start over (two times) even thought it was frustrating at the time, as the sweater fits perfectly.
Picture
Then, because I hate waste if I can help it, I finished the Boho style top I had originally started. I embellished and beaded the neckline and sleeves, embroidered flowers around the neckline, and added lace to the hem.  I sewed a long skirt out of the same fabric, to wear with it as a maternity gown...for when the time comes and she needs it....

Stone Arches

I made a set of arches to fit on top of my existing styrofoam pillars, so I'd have some more architectural possibilities out in the garden. Yvette and Winston posed for some photos with it...
