Dragon & Elves

A collection of photos of my newest dragon, Saphira, and my House Elves

Introducing Saphira

My new dragon was finally finished!  That just took five whole weeks, but the way time was flying these days it somehow didn't feel that long. First a few close ups...

With Phairby in the Scillas

We went to the woods on the town-line and I took Saphira and Phairby along just in case the scillas were still half-decent. They were still pretty nice under the trees, so I took some photos, even though they were back-lit in the midday sun....

Then back at home in the studio. I had Saphira posed with Phairby, since she's going to get a saddle with a little Elf Warrior rider Phairby's size...

Then a comparison photo with Winston. It's not meant to be their first meeting, but strictly a comparison photo. Saphira is a little bigger, but then female dragons are. I added 1/4" in her upper torso to help accommodate a saddle and rider. I also straightened the curves in the neck so that I can bend it to whatever curves I want without popping the seams. And I also added 1/2" to the length of her lower legs and a bit of width to her thighs. Everything else is from the same patterns.

Then to celebrate a friend's birthday, I had her pose with a cake, balloons, and gifts....

Gino and Nolan

I'm finally finished my first two House Elves!  Well, actually the third and fourth, since Willie and Phairby are also House Elves.  I've had Nolan for over two years, but he couldn't go to get painted because of the pandemic.  Gino arrived recently but I wasn't happy with his paint job, so he went for a redo as well.

I've always wanted to make a 'Gnome on a Dragon', and thought Nolan would be perfect. Which is why I made Saphira back in the winter.  To be his 'steed'.

Well, the tiny knight outfits were a ton of work - way more than my fashion sized ones - but they are finally done.

There's Nolan, who looks to me to be a General in the tiny 'army'....

...and his ride, Saphira, who also got some protective armour, in addition to a saddle and reins...

And then there's Gino....

...and his ride, my polar bear cub....

Nolan's hair is glued into his helmet, and he will need a separate wig with a white braid down the back, so he's not bald when he takes his helmet off.  I was stressing over how to make a thin white wig and not have the brown wig cap show through, until it occurred to me to make a new wig cap out of WHITE tulle.  Duh!

They have arrived at the castle to sign a pact with the King, but are waiting for their Wizard, Archibald, to join them (whose costume was next on my to do list)

Presenting the Wizard, Archibald

I finished Archibald, and what a lot of tiny, fiddly work!  The only thing he still needs is a separate wig for when he isn't wearing his hat that has the hair attached.  So, here he is...

His costume was inspired by my High Aldwin from Willow....

With Lawrence's throne room set up on the dining room table already, I figured I'd just take the House Elf portraits in it.

So, now I have five of my eight elves finished....

Feel Better Soon

On July 28th we learned that Donny Harijanto, Mr. DreamHigh Studio himself, and the creator of all the House Elves, had been very ill in hospital with Covid the previous two weeks, and was now recovering at home.

I felt compelled to put together a little Get Well Soon 'card' for him....

We all hope he recovers quickly and feels much better soon!
