Crocheted Hats

Copyright © Martha Boers 2015. All rights Reserved

These little hats were originally made to accessorize outfits I made for Iplehouse BIDs and KIDs, who have a head
circumference of 6.7 to 6.9 inches . The hat was designed to fit over their wigs, and will fit other dolls with similar sized heads.

Even though I have made many of these little hats, I had no idea how to write out the instructions so others could follow them to make a hat themselves. My friend Donna Leggee, kindly offered to translate my laymen's instructions into proper crochet instructions.
Thank you Donna!!

Basic Hats

*The one above on right, and the three below have a third colour for their brims. I purchased 2 different bags of
craft crochet-type threads from Michaels, which contained 3 skeins each of 12 different colours - one bag of bright
colours, and the other one pastels - which made it possible to make hats to colour coordinate with almost any outfit.

Basic Hat Variation

*In this variation, the two rows of double crochet above the hat band have been replaced by four rows of single crochet

Basic Hat Variation Instructions

Follow Basic Hat through Rnd 5.
Rnd 6:  Ch 1, sc in same st and in every st around.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  Repeat this row 3 more times.  (You are replacing Rnd 6 and 7 of the Basic Hat with 4 rows of sc)
Continue from Rnd 8 of Basic Hat.
Finishing: Weave a length of ribbon through the spaces of the “hat band”.  Decorate with a bow and some ribbon roses.
