Happily Ever After? Chapter 3
The ongoing tale of the White Cat Sequel
Autumn Resignation
After the Magic potion hadn't worked on anyone but Kassia, everyone's hopes rested on winning the class action suit the Wizard had already submitted at the Fairy Court. He planned on pleading everyone's case in hopes of overturning the evil curse. But there was no telling when they would get a court date, so everyone just had to make the best of it and go back to their familiar routines.
It was a glorious autumn day, so Kassia and Adrian went out for a ride in the country...
It was a glorious autumn day, so Kassia and Adrian went out for a ride in the country...
"I always loved this time of year."
"Me too. But I think I liked it better when I wasn't a cat."
"Shall we get down off our horses, and just take a little walk?"
"I'm so sorry the potion didn't work on you. You must be getting so tired of being a cat."
"I'm just glad it did work on you." he replied.
"And I do have faith that the Fairy Court will see reason and return everyone back to normal."
"In the meantime we just need to make the best of it and continue on like usual."
"I know you are right, but I don't have to like it."
"Anyways, it's almost dinner time...and we should head back..."
Dinner on the Terrace
Kassia and Adrian sat down to dinner on the terrace...
"This feels so strange, with our situations reversed."
"It does. But I hope everything will eventually be back to normal."
The cook arrived with a platter of their favourite hors d'oeuvres...
"Yummm!!"
"And you, my Lady?"
"I made your favourite."
Kassia was appalled, but had to remain polite. After all he thought he was doing something nice....
"No thank you. Now that I'm human again, I don't think I could eat these delicacies anymore."
"But I'm sure Adrian, and everyone else, will enjoy them."
"So I guess it's no more mice or rats for dinner from now on then."
Misty Morning
So Kassia and Adrian settled into a regular routine. Most days they'd start with an invigorating ride, and on this particular morning the fog hung thick in the air...
It was cool and damp, as autumn was fading quickly...
But they still enjoyed going out for a ride...
"It's so peaceful out here..."
"But the days are getting shorter.."
"..and winter is coming soon."
"What do you say we go visit the Wizard and see if he's heard anything?"
"...and we can check on Rags, to see how he's doing."
Adrian realized he hadn't even thought of Rags for months. "I'd like that."
"Well, let's go then.."
Visiting
Kassia and Adrian arrived at the Wizard's home....
"We were in the neighbourhood so thought we'd drop in..."
"Well, I'm glad you did. It's nice to see you both again."
"Look! There's Rags!"
"Do you remember us, Boy?"
Kassia picked him up...
"Well, he remembers me...don't you Boy?"
"How has he been?"
"He's doing great, and gets along really well with the other cats. He's no trouble at all."
"That's good to hear...."
"So I guess..."
"...he doesn't miss us then..."
Staying for Tea
"We were just about to take a tea break. Would you like to join us?"
The Wizard moved some of his dusty old books so there would be room for his guests at the little table in the corner...
Rags stayed close to Kassia, sitting quietly on her lap.
Petting him felt so familiar, reminding her of days before all their lives were turned upside down.
She hoped that some day soon it could be like that again.
"Has there been any news from the Fairy Court yet?"
"No. Nothing yet."
"They sure take their time, don't they?"
"Yes, they do. Fairies are never in any kind of hurry, so there's no telling when we'll hear from them. It could take months. Or it could be tomorrow. We just have to be patient."
"So how are you doing?"
"We are doing okay...."
"Still disappointed that the potion didn't work on everyone...."
"... but getting more used to the situation, and trying to make the best of it."
Feeling Sad
The fog still hung thick as they made their way home, and it weighed heavily on Kassia's heart....
She had hoped that visiting the Wizard, and seeing Rags would lift her spirits, but it only made her sad.....
She hadn't realized just how much she had missed him, and it reminded her of how much had changed....
Adrian tried to comfort her. "It will be okay. We'll get through this....together. I'm confident of it."
Making Changes
Back at home, Adrian was becoming more attentive to Kassia...
He finally recognized how sad she had been feeling...
and did his best to be kind and try cheer her up...
"Thank you..."
He had also instructed Cook not to prepare any more 'cat delicacies'...
But only make the dishes Kassia enjoyed....
A Quiet Dinner
Dinners took on a much more civilized atmosphere...
Reading
Life settled back into a regular routine....
Kassia spent quiet afternoons reading..
While Lucy took care of the regular household chores....
"What are you ready, my Lady?"
"It's the story of a girl who finds herself in a castle where the Prince has been enchanted into a beast...and everyone else in the palace has been transformed as well..."
"So, pretty much the same as what we are going through right now. I hope it has a happy ending."
