Tiny Characters in the Snow

Taking doll photos in the snow is always a challenge, although the photos in the previous post were taken back in early January when we only had a bit of snow, well before two big storms buried everything.  I always plan the set-ups inside, put everything on a tray, and head out with my camera. One of the biggest inconveniences in winter is that there's no place to put stuff. The patio furniture is in the garage for the winter, so there's nowhere to put anything other than on the snowy ground. I can't put trays on the garden itself, since it slopes and a tray would just slide off.

There's also no interesting plants in winter to help create a background, so I borrowed several little fake trees from Jan's Christmas village, stuck them into the snow to cover their bases, and sprinkled them with snow. There's not a lot of options for taking photos from different directions, other than a few close-ups...

Once I'd taken some photos, everything was shaken off, and it all went back inside, where everything ended up on heat registers around the main floor to dry off.

A week later we got hit with the first blizzard....

And then another....

So, now there's way too much snow for doll photos. Plus with a Polar vortex stalled over us the past while, it's also way too cold out there.

Glad you got the photos before the big snow.

Yes, now it's way too deep.

Your photos tell the story of one of the most pronounced snow storms I can recall in recent times.

I thought for a moment that your next to last photo was in black and white but then I realized it was the snow giving that effect.

The Christmas Village trees lend just the right touch.

Both snow storms dumped a lot of snow. The last one was especially bad. The temperature still hasn't recovered, and we've been in the deep freeze ever since.

Yes, those little trees always help set the scene.

I always, always enjoy your behind-the-scenes photos! There is so much to learn from them 😊.

The first photo had me laughing. The way the black mittens(?) in the foreground are placed, it looks like Jan may have fallen head first into a very deep snowbank 😄

Those are my mittens. I prefer mittens to gloves, as they help keep my hands warmer. Problem is that I can't handle the dolls (especially not such tiny ones) wearing mittens, nor can I use the camera with them on, so they just get abandoned.

Great idea and photos.
I can confirm that there's far too much snow to take pictures of dolls outdoors right now, unless you can find a flat spot with a nice background, which isn't always possible. Best of luck to our husbands, both yours in Ontario and mine here in Quebec, as they haven't had a break this year with all the snow removal due to this seemingly endless polar cold snap.
Bring on spring!
