the Barbarians

Our daughter's family bought a 3-D printer for Christmas, and our grandson (age 12) was eager to try print something for my dolls. I had suggested possibly a helmet for my knight, or some pirate pistols. So, when we went to visit recently, he had several items to show me.

My son-in law had guessed at the size and had printed a helmet, and my grandson had printed several pistols in a range of sizes...
Picture
I thought the helmet was a bit over the top, but might work with Jude's barbarian armour. So, on a nice day I sprayed it silver and then mellowed it with brown paint.

The helmet was a touch too small to fit over Jude's wig comfortably.  It might have fit if I'd forced it, but I wasn't going to risk any damage to his faceup.  So I decided to take some photos of him just holding it...
Picture
The helmet did fit over my FID men's heads - even with their wig - as FID men have slightly smaller heads than the SartoriaJ guys.  But there was no way I was going to do a costume switch, and then I realized I could just swap their heads. I chose Lawrence with his longer red hair. The helmet fit comfortably over his wig without touching his face....
Picture
Then I took another photo with him just holding it, and he temporarily became a Barbarian King...
Picture
But Jude decided it was his, and even thought he can't actually wear it, he's insisted on just continuing to hold it in the display case.

So, now I need to do some work on the pistols as the backs did not print perfectly, so I will attempt to 'finish' them with Aves Apoxie.  And my son-in-law will attempt to print some helmets more suitable to what a Medieval knight might wear.

I love that "future" technology is useful in your land of fantasy.

Jude looks handsome just holding the helmet.

I look forward to reading stories that these new items may evoke.

Jude tend to look handsome all the time, no matter what he's doing.

I love that Jude is helping his helm regardless of the fact that he can’t wear it.

Well, he could wear it without his wig, but where's the fun in that? Plus I think it looks more impressive hand held. It's not like anyone is about to attack anyone anyways, so there's no need to actually wear it.

It's amazing what can be done with a 3-D printer! It's nice too that your grandson and son-in-law are interested in creating props for your dolls.

The helmet looks great both being worn (it's fearsome) and held. The pistols will be very useful in many settings.

Yes, it's nice to have someone interested in making stuff for me. The helmet was printed from a free 3-D program available online, and cost just pennies in plastic. So much easier than actually having to sculpt it from scratch!

I'm hoping for some more useful items in the future. I'd love for 3-D printed armour, but I think that might be too challenging.

Congratulations to your grandson for his idea, and to you for the finishing touches: this helmet is superb.
I can't wait to see the result with the pistols once you've improved them.

Thanks. it's nice my grandson and son in law are interested in making some of these props for me.

The pistols may take some time, as the backs of them are still rough, and I need to 'finish' them with Apoxie. And then I'll probably have to make some tiny pirate outfits for whomever ends up with them.
