Larry and Lily

2/26/2025

Last year at this time DreamHigh Studio introduced a larger 27 cm House Elf named Larry. I've always loved Donny's little elves and I was excited about getting one in a larger size. So I ordered him unpainted, and he arrived last May.

Not only was he incredibly posable, but he also had articulated hands...

He was roughly twice the size of my other House Elves, and the perfect size to become a Dwarf in my Medieval Fantasy world with my other dolls...

It took forever to get him painted, and I still hadn't decided what colour hair and beard to give him. His hair and beard colour would totally depend on what kind of outfit I wanted to make for him. I had originally ordered him thinking he'd become a Dwarf like the ones in the Hobbit movie with red hair and beard, But I also liked the idea of white hair and beard. Wigs are changeable but beards are permanent, so I had to choose. And since I needed to decide on hair colour before I could make him an outfit I just put him into one of my BID outfits. Then in January Lily arrived. I had ordered her painted, so she wouldn't be blank as long. But I couldn't decide on what outfit to make her either, so just decided to copy Daisy Elf's outfit....

I felt that even though I had ordered her painted, she lacked a certain definition (see photo above)  So I decided to try and enhance her makeup a little, basically by highlighting the shadows and creases in her face. After sealing her I glued in some eyelashes. It was the first time I'd done either before, and I was quite pleased with myself. I also gave her one size smaller eyes.

Then I made her a wig...

And for size comparison I took a photo of Lily and Willie welcoming my other new arrival, Sarah.

I agree you should be pleased with yourself. The changes you made to her face up improved her appearance immeasurably. She was fine before, but now she sparkles. : )

Thank you! I've never enhanced a face before. But I'm so glad that I tried.

They are absolutely charming and a great addition to your Fantasy family of characters!! I agree with Sasha, Lily sparkles with the enhancements you made. In the close-up of her in her new wig, she looks like she is a mischievous granny. 😉. I really like her with white hair, it suits her well. I think Larry would look great with white hair as well.

Thank you! Lily certainly has a mischievous look about her, and I can imagine all kinds of little stories in the future.

But first I need to make something for Larry. I've already decided he's going to have white hair and beard, but these dolls don't have removable heads, so have to make his outfits before I glue a beard on him. I think both dolls could be all kinds of characters, depending on the outfit(s) I make. Lily could be a little witch, or even a more woodsy character. Larry could be a warrior dwarf, a wizard, or even a little old forest elf. But ideas are a dime a dozen, and it takes time to follow through on any one of them.

You did a great job enhancing Lily. I really love the eyelashes. I have both Lily and Larry and am totally smitten with them.

Thank you! I feel dolls need eye lashes. But it was the most difficult part of the entire enhancement process because of my failing eyesight. It was really hard to see, and took many tries, but in the end I got it done.

oh my! their faces are so wrinkled and expressive. I love the twinkle in Lily's eyes now, as she looks out from under her gorgeous white wig. Really great that they have jointed fingers too !!!

That's what I love about DreamHigh Studio, Donny makes such great little old characters.

The 'twinkle' in her eyes is from going down a size so the whites of her eyes show a bit. The eyes she came with filled her entire eye hole and made them look like a black empty space. So many doll companies put eyes that are too big into their dolls, and I usually end up switching them down a size.
