Heart of the Mountain

That evening everyone sat around the fire.
Picture
Byuri told her mother all about the adventures she'd had with her new friends,
Picture
and how the eagle had led them to find her.
Picture
And Aeran shared with Byuri's mother all about the quest she and her companions were on looking to recover a long lost jewel ... the Heart of the Mountain ...
Picture
and how she needed it to legitimize her position as Queen in her Grandfather's kingdom.
Picture
Byuri's mother took something out of a small leather bag. "Is this what you are looking for?"
Picture
Aeran could barely believe it. All the months spent searching for the missing talisman, and here it was. "Yes, it is."
"It was given to our people many years ago," continued Byuri's mother,  "But I have no use for a jewel such as this. My daughter is my jewel ... and I want you to take this, to thank you, for returning her to me."
Picture
Aeran didn't know what to say. She could never have known that having put aside her search for the talisman and going instead on another journey to help reunite a lost little girl with her mother, that she would receive the very jewel she had been searching for.
"It's beautiful." she whispered. "Thank you."

It just goes to show that following your heart is often the best thing to do. Proof of this can be found in Aeran, who chose to turn away from her search and follow the eagle to accompany Byuri and help her find her mother. It was a wonderful reward, as she also found the famous jewel that her grandfather had told her about.
Have a nice day,
Martine

Fate. I wonder what the story is behind giving the jewel to Byuri’s people so long ago.

When Aeran's grandfather was a young man, he paid the jewel as a bride price for the woman he loved, but then it passed from hand to hand over the years, and the whereabouts became unknown. Hence the need for a quest to find and retrieve it.

Aeran actually looks stunned to finally find the jewel. It is amazing how her face just takes on that look as you have her posed.

Is that an eagle on the hat of Byuri's mother?

I am looking forward to reading more of the story as it continues.

Yes, Byuri's mother has an eagle on her hat.

It's interesting how the poses can evoke different emotions in a static face.

Doing the right thing even when it is inconvenient is a reward in itself, but many times brings unexpected reward.

This adventure with its many life lessons is like a lovely old-fashioned morality play.
