Father Frost

This year I thought I'd try photograph my Wizard as yet another version of 'Santa'.

Americans and Canadians alike tend to think that all the different traditional 'Santa' figures are one and the same, and use all the names interchangeably; Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle - but they are not the same. They are all completely different traditional characters unique to their own countries of origin.

Russia also has their own traditional Christmas figure - Father Frost, who is a Russian fairytale character who travels throughout the land on Christmas delivering gifts with his granddaughter Snegurochka also known as the Snow Maiden.

I loved the images I'd seen of them online, and was inspired to copy the traditional snow Maiden's outfit for my Princess Elora in A Christmas Story a few years back. Then it was just a simple matter of combining parts of my Santa and St. Nicholas outfits to create Father Frost.

This Father Frost and his granddaughter are absolutely magnificent. What details in the costumes of these two characters from Russian fairy tales. Bravo!

The costumes are lovely. I did not know about Father Frost. Thanks for sharing this information. It looks like you got a nice snowfall.

Of all of your different Santas, Santa by the swimming pool still makes me smile.

I took these photos in early December when we had a small snowfall one afternoon. It all melted the next day. We do have a little bit of snow right now but it's way too cold outside to go outside and take doll photos.

Your Wizard is so versatile! He has portrayed many different characters very well, He has a wonderful face! Over the years you've taught me a lot about the various Santa figures that exist in other countries.

It's interesting too, how different the same Snow Maiden costume can look when it is worn by another doll. I know it is the same costume Nami wore as Princess Elora, but somehow it looks different on this little one.

Yes he is extremely versatile and has portrayed so many different characters over the years - and will likely continue to do so.

To be honest I've never really liked the all-in-red American Coca Cola Santa, so decided to go with the more interesting versions from other countries.

Yes, the same outfit on a different doll can look very different. But it's interesting that Nami's outfit in A Christmas Story was actually a copy of the Snow Maiden's outfit from a beautiful illustration. So it's gone full circle.
