Behind Corn on the Cob

8/17/2024

There was a Corn on the Cob Day in June that I wanted to take a photo for after the fact for an upcoming Summer Special Days book. We had just bought 15 cobs of corn for a family barbecue, so it seemed like the perfect time. After all when would I ever have that much corn in hand otherwise? So I husked most of the corn, then took everything outside to the patio with my little Forest Dweller Mice and Raccoons....

I set up a scene with the mice and raccoons using the corn, the husks and corn silk, and took photos in the hazy, early morning sun.

I love your forest dwellers, they're so cute... and busy! They made good use of all that corn silk 😊

The first photo shows how tiny these guys really are. At first I thought the bits of bright colours amongst the corn cobs were your little birds!

Thank you! I try take advantage of every opportunity when it presents itself.

I really love these tiny characters. They are a challenge to pose, but when they cooperate they make for some great photos.

I love that first the Forest Dweller families got to enjoy the corn and then your family got to enjoy it!

In the long shot, it all looks so simple. However, in the close up one can see the intricacies and how you have arranged every aspect of the photo to make it true to the little Forest Dwellers.

Now I am hungry for corn on the cob (laugh).

Thanks for sharing your Behind The Scenes magic..

This was actually a complicated set up, both because it was in the morning with sun threatening to come out from behind the clouds, and because I had to take photos facing west towards the fence, where there's GIGANTIC hostas, which are so hugely out of scale that they have to be hidden. So the set up needed to be quite high in the back so the garden didn't show. And I only had so much corn and couldn't use it to prop up the background.
