"Let's hang up our snowflakes on the window..." So they taped them all up.... "What have you girls been up to?" 'We've been making it look like there's a snowstorm inside the house.." "You certainly have!!" "Ooops..." "If we clean up all these stray 'flurries' on the floor, then we'll just have your lovely snowstorm left on the window..."

Nyssa wanted to make some paper snowflakes to decorate the front window.... ....so she got out some white paper, and showed Elin how to fold it.... "And now you cut out of the edges....and unfold it..." "Yes, like that...."
The further north they went, the snowier it became.... Snowball was loving all the snow! It reminded him of home... "How much further?" "Maybe another day or so..."
Okay, before my group continues on their way north, I'm going to have to fess up to the 'secret' behind all the snow photos. Are they really in the snow? Yes, and no. They are standing in real snow, but the background was layered in from older scenery photos I've taken. I've been waiting for some decent snow for weeks, and it just wasn't happening, so I got the idea to take my dolls and horses over to the Rec Centre, where there's piles of 'snow' , from the zamboni that regularly cleans the ice rink there. It was cold and snowing lightly, when I set up the dolls and horses. Then Jan held up a big white sheet to serve as temporary background.... I changed the poses and direction they were heading a few times, and moved around the pile to take photos from different directions. Then when I got home, I looked through my old photo albums for suitable background pictures, and found some from a trip West, in Spring 2012. I chose a photo of Bow Lake, in Banff, as the background to this photo.... ..and combined them in Photoshop to make this..... And I chose this photo of Tangle Falls in a Blizzard, as the background for this photo.... ...and combined them in Photoshop to make this.... It's not an easy process, especially since I have very limited knowledge of Photoshop, but I was very happy with the results.
Okay, so now that you know how it was done, maybe we can get on with the story...... Cinnamon, Willie, and the Wizard are making good progress on their trip... However, all the snow is slowing them down....
Today many people of Dutch descent celebrate St. Nicholas Eve. He was a real person, a Christian Bishop in Asia Minor, towards the end of the Roman Empire. He became the patron saint of children. People in several Western European countries celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas on December 6th, the anniversary of his death, way back in 343 AD. In the Netherlands it's celebrated on December 5th, and in Eastern European countries on December 19th. In the Netherlands, Dutch children traditionally put out a wooden shoe filled with hay and a carrot for Saint Nicholas' horse. If they had been good all year, they could expect a small gift and some treats the next morning. Over the years I've taken some photos with my OOAK St. Nicholas figure....so lets' look back on some of them today....first from 2011, when I had just one BID - Elin - and little Cinnamon.... And from 2012, when both Elin and Cinnamon had acquired some friends.... Then in 2014 there was a whole story entitled 'A Visit from of St. Nicholas' Some of my favourite photos from that story... Chocolate letters for everyone....
