Relief

With the ruling in their favour, there was a huge sense of relief.

The fairies sought out Kassia...

"We are so sorry for everything that you've been through."

"Not just this past year....but your whole life. You've been an innocent victim through all of it."

"And we sincerely apologize."

"It is our hope that after everything is set right again, that the two of you will finally have your 'happily ever after'."

Adrian's friend Kyle came over to congratulate him. "Maybe once you're back to your old self again, we can do some things together again. I have more horses on order, that I need to go pick up. Maybe you'd like to come?"

"I appreciate the offer, but I think I'm just going to stay home for a while...and spend some time with Kassia. We've been through a lot this past year."

Meanwhile Prince Phillip went to talk to Willie...

"I really want to thank you for that day care recommendation."

"The girls absolutely loved it there."

"They've had a really good time, and have made lots of friends. I suspect that after spending a little time with their Mother and grandparents after they first wake up, the girls will probably want to go back there again."

Then everyone wanted to thank the Wizard for his efforts...

It had been a very challenging year, and they were all looking forward to finally being reunited with their loved ones.

The Court Clerk stepped forward...

Kassia held Adrian's paw in hopeful anticipation...

"We, the Judges of the seven Fairy Kingdoms..."

"..rule on behalf of the claimants."

"It is our judgement..."

"... that they have all been subjected to an unlawful curse..."

"...which by the power of this Fairy Court..."

"... we shall undo forthwith."

"Three days hence..."

"The spell will be broken, and everyone affected will be returned to their normal condition."

Sales Intermission

I have to take a short intermission in my story for some timely announcements. With Christmas quickly coming up, my kids have been busy helping to make Holiday pillows.

Deliberating

The fairies set about discussing the case...

...while everyone in the courtroom quietly sat and waited.

It had been a long day, the Wizard had done his best, and everyone was tired.

The fairy judges continued to deliberate....

"The Wizard is right. It is against our laws to cast an evil spell without an escape clause."

"Which means that allowing this curse to continue would be setting a dangerous precedent."

"So, are we all agreed?"

"And by sharing with you the misery this unlawful, evil spell has caused..."

"...our hope is that you will take pity on all these good people..."

"..and undo the unlawful curse they have all been subjected to."

"Their fate ultimately lies in your hands."

"And now your Honours, we rest our case.
We trust, that in your wisdom, you will do the right thing."

"Kassia and Adrian were married and made a life together."

"..but then, a year ago...when Adrian returned from a trip..."

"...he found Kassia and everyone in the castle transformed back into cats.
The next day he was a cat himself..."

"My colleague, and I..."

"... discovered that Kassia and Adrian were not the only ones affected."

"It seemed that every one who had ever been subjected to an evil spell in the past and had overcome them, was now suddenly right back where they started."

"And all because of an evil spell with no escape clause, cast by a vengeful dying fairy.
So there was no way for anyone to undo it."

"My colleague and I created the most powerful transformation potion we knew of, in an attempt to transform everyone back to their human selves..."

"....but we were not very successful. It only worked on Kassia..."

"...and a handful of others."

"The Fairy Queen thought she had given an impossible 'escape clause' to her evil spell, but fate had other plans."

"Unbeknownst to her, there was another young man, who looked identical to Kassia's unfortunate love. He was also the son of a King. His Father, was getting old, and he wanted his sons out of his hair, so he sent them on a year long quest. That's when Prince Adrian came across Kassia's castle. She was shocked to see him at the castle gate, and couldn't believe what she was seeing. She'd watched the dragons devour her love, yet here he stood again, right in front of her!!"

"But he wasn't her love. He was his cousin. They looked so much alike that they could have been twins. They often even dressed alike. Kassia invited him in, but had a hard time believing he wasn't her Prince..."

"I know it was a really difficult time for you, because I reminded you so much of the Prince - my cousin - who you had fallen in love with."

"Adrian stayed at Kassia's castle for a year, at the end of which she presented him with the item his father had sent him out on a quest for. But the King did not want to give up his throne just yet, so sent his sons out on another quest. And then a third. This time Adrian and his brothers were to return with the most beautiful Princess they could find, and which ever brother won, he would inherit his father's kingdom.

When the third year was almost over, Kassia told Adrian what he must do in order to have the most beautiful Princess, but Adrian was reluctant, as he'd fallen in love with his little White Cat, and did not want to sacrifice her."

"But she begged him, and told him everything would be allright....and he broke the spell."

"...and she could finally tell him who she really was."

The courtroom fell silent...

...and Adrian reached over to hold Kassia's hand.

"This poor girl watched in horror as the dragons devoured her beloved Prince..."

"...but there was even more to come."

"The jealous Fairy Queen then turned her anger towards Kassia..."

"...and transformed her into a cat."

'This is what you get for betraying me! You'll spend the rest of your life as a cat!'

'The only way to break my spell, and be returned to your human form again, would be.....that someone who looks exactly like your unfortunate lover.... should fall in love with you...even though you are a cat.'

'You cannot tell him that you are enchanted, or who you really are, or you will stay a cat forever.
You must convince this non-existent man that he must cut out your heart!'

"Poor Kassia was grief stricken."

" She was in shock, and barely noticed when another cat approached."

"I'm Lucy, Miss. I'm so sorry for what that Fairy Queen has done to you."

'I am one of the servants who lives in the castle. The Fairy Queen made sure you never saw, or knew about us.
But we knew all about you.'

'She's turned all of us servants into cats...before she, and all the other fairies, abandoned the castle.'

'So...you mean....I'm not all alone??'

'No Miss. I know this has been a horrific day....and you have suffered a terrible loss....
but know that you are not alone....and we will be here for you.'

'All of us will get through this together.'

"Then one day the Prince stayed too long..."

"...and the Fairy Queen arrived home early..."

"Well, well..... seems we have caught a rat!"

"Seems our lovely Kassia has been keeping a secret from us."

"What is going on here??"

"We are in love..."

"...and we want to be together..."

"The Fairy Queen was very angry and turned to Kassia."
'After everything I've done for you!
You betray me ....by sneaking around out here...with...with this young man!'

"Well....I'll put a stop to this!! My dragons will make sure of it!!
There's nothing they enjoy more than a nice tasty treat!!'

'No!!! Please!! Don't!! No!!!! Punish me...but don't harm him!!!'

Finally, the Truth

"As she grew older, Kassia continued to wonder about who she was..."

"...and why she was living here with all the Fairies.."

"They still came every day, and they were good to her..."

"But even with all the fairies for company, she couldn't help but feel alone."

"Then one day, while out wandering in the garden, she met someone. A young man - a Prince - who had come across the castle totally by chance."

"He was the first man she had ever seen, and she was cautiously intrigued."

"She wanted to know more about the world outside the garden gate, and he about her, so they agreed to meet secretly each day, while the Fairy Queen was away..."

"He would tell her all about his world outside the gates.."

"And she would tell him about her life in the Fairy castle."

"He told her of the stories he'd heard of how a Fairy Queen had stolen away a human baby Princess to raise as her own, and no one had seen her since. Then Kassia suddenly realized that she was that Princess!!"

"It suddenly all made sense. The Fairy Queen was not really her Mother, and the other fairies were not her sisters!! She was human just like him! It was a lot to take in.
But now, finally knowing the truth, Kassia felt even more like a prisoner."

"She looked forward to her secret meetings with the Prince each day...and they soon fell in love."

"They started planning her escape, so they could be together."
