Someone suggested they'd like to see Miho in her green dress, as a fairy in a garden, so I took up the challenge. I found some clip-on wings and set up a 'garden' on my picnic table....
The little mouse was not only a talented seamstress, but she was also an excellent tailor, and had been working hard on Mr. Ropuha and his friend's formal wedding wear. Their pants are ready to try on.... "I'm not used to wearing pants. I hope they don't make my butt look too big." Tiana thought her fiancé's pants were perfect.... "Doesn't he look great?" But Miss Mousy had no time to waste, as there was still a lot to get done....
I've had my Miho for a year already, but could never decide if I wanted to go into the FID line, or not. I even ordered her a guy last Christmas in hopes they'd make a great couple. But with everything else going on in my life, I found it difficult to decide if I really wanted to add another size doll to my collection - especially since it's not compatible with the dolls I play with most. But I finally decided to give them a decent try, which meant getting them painted, so I took them to Charie Wilson last week, to work her magic on them. I picked them up this afternoon. Miho is gorgeous, and I had to give her her dress back, and take some photos. It's a good thing I never shortened the dress for Isis, because it's perfect for Miho. After all she's the doll I made it for.
FID Lawrence and my second Owen were both painted as well. But I'm not taking any photos of either of them until I've made them each a wig, and some clothes. Tiana's friend, who was also a seamstress, was just making the finishing touches to the wedding dress, as Tiana arrived for a fitting.... Tiana tried on the dress, and hopped up in front of the mirror to have a look.... "It's gorgeous, and fits perfectly!"
Everything was packed up, and we were almost ready to leave. Aaron was poking around in the dead fire. "I had a really good time camping. I sure hope we can come back again next year."
It had been a fun week, and it was almost over. Everyone gathered to watch the sun set.... Then they lit the campfire one last time.... And on a side note - a little story behind these photos.
I'm rather self-conscious and don't really like people watching when i take my doll photos. The exception being on this trip when i took the fishing photos, and the place was overrun with a movie crew checking out the angles for their upcoming film. But these sunset photos were a challenge. I really, really wanted to take a sunset photo. It was the very last evening, before we had to go home. Problem was, both campsites on either side of us were occupied for the upcoming weekend, and I was nervous about begin watched. Jan pushed me to do it anyways, and ignore all the other people. So we set up two scenes - the kids sitting on the picnic table, and the small campfire with chairs, to transfer some of the dolls to after the sunset photos. But our campsite was the perfect spot to watch the sunset - which is why we always book it - and all the people from the neighbouring sites wandered over. Then they noticed the doll set ups. Some of them were enthralled and thought it was amazing. They asked if they could take pictures too. I said that was fine, but for the best shots they'd need to get down where I was to shoot the scene the same way. One older man did. He thought it was the greatest thing, and said his grandchildren would love the pictures. After the sunset pictures, we transferred some of the dolls over to the campfire scene, and Jan lit the fire. It grew so big way too fast, and Jan had to pull the dolls back several times. At one point the flames almost hit Aaron, but thankfully he was unscathed. The flames were just getting too big, so Jan ran to get some water, which he sprinkled on the flames to keep them under control. And all the time, our neighbours were right there taking pictures too. Anyway, lessons learned: 1. When using real flames around dolls, always have water standing by beforehand, just in case. 2. Stop worrying about what other people will think. They will either ignore you, or think it's totally cool. And one last photo of the campfire after it was 'controlled' a bit with a few sprinkles of water....perfect embers for roasting marshmallows, but I hadn't brought any that time. Along Chikanishing Creek in Kilarney, there's a small set of rapids over the rocks as the creek descends to the lake. Some of the kids put on their bathing suits and inflated their float rings, hoping to go tubing over the rapids.... Nyssa thought it looked like the perfect place to float down the stream.... ..but I said..... "No way are you going to risk doing that! These are the same falls that swept Elin away a few years ago. She had to be rescued from the bottom of the river, and she was lucky she didn't drown. So no tubing here!" Ringo was not happy.
It's been quite a while since any of the granddaughters brought a doll along on Saturday morning, but Today Teagan brought one of her favourites. Natty brought some stuffies, and Rachel was disappointed she hadn't brought anything, so I let her have my doll for the morning. We decided to go all out and have them camp in the backyard. Rachel helped me set up, and since she loves anything to do with cooking, we made her doll be the camp cook... It's funny, the photos seem so 'familiar', yet so strange with the larger dolls. But these are the dolls most of my props are intended for. It's just so much easier using BJDs that will actually pose.
One cool morning, we went in the canoe out Chickanishing Creek to explore the rugged coast of Georgian Bay. We took along four little kids.
When we pulled out on an island along the coast to stretch our legs and have a snack, the kids were only to happy to go exploring. |
