An Iron

8/21/2024

Then Naomi opened her second gift...
Picture
"It's an iron!" But she was even more confused...
Picture
"I remember seeing irons like this in an antique shop back home. They were from Victorian times."
Picture
"I love it, and it will be very useful, but wherever did you get it?"
Picture
"I'll tell you later. But first I have one more surprise for you."

A Gift for Naomi

8/20/2024

With the children keeping their Mom distracted with hugs and cuddles....
Picture
Baron slipped out to fetch his gifts...
Picture
"What's this?"
Picture
"I have something for you."
Picture
"Happy birthday!"
Picture
Naomi opened the first gift.
Picture
It was full of spools of thread...
Picture
"I love them! There's so many beautiful colours."
Picture
"But I don't understand. Wherever did you get them?"
Picture
"Oh, I have my ways."

A Birthday Hug

8/19/2024

It wasn't quite the start to the day Baron had envisioned, but this was the next best thing. Their children were just so adorable.
Picture
"So, why are you too excited to sleep?"
Picture
"Because..."
Picture
"...it's Momma's birthday!"
Picture
"Well, that sounds like a very good reason. Maybe you could give her a big birthday hug."
Picture
He didn't need to suggest it twice..."Happy birthday Momma!"
Picture
Picture
"We love you Momma."
Picture
Naomi hugged them tight.  "And I love the both of you too."

Naomi's Birthday

8/18/2024

It was just past dawn on Naomi's birthday, when Baron got up to light the fire, then slipped back into bed with her....
Picture
"Happy birthday my love.."
Picture
But his plans for a romantic start to the day were interrupted by the pitter patter of tiny feet....
"What are you two doing up so early?"
Picture
"We are too excited to sleep any more."
Picture
...and they climbed up into their parent's bed...

Behind Corn on the Cob

8/17/2024

There was a Corn on the Cob Day in June that I wanted to take a photo for after the fact for an upcoming Summer Special Days book. We had just bought 15 cobs of corn for a family barbecue, so it seemed like the perfect time. After all when would I ever have that much corn in hand otherwise? So I husked most of the corn, then took everything outside to the patio with my little Forest Dweller Mice and Raccoons....
Picture
I set up a scene with the mice and raccoons using the corn, the husks and corn silk, and took photos in the hazy, early morning sun.

Beautiful Iris

8/16/2024

My dining room table hosted a coronation and a wedding recently, with all of my regular MSDs in attendance. My three contemporary Junior Iplehouse ladies needed something to wear, so had to borrow some Medieval Fantasy gowns from their slightly taller Fashion sized sisters. Iris won the costume lottery ending up wearing Naomi's wedding gown. I thought she looked so beautiful in it that she deserved a photo shoot of her own....

A Victorian Shop

8/15/2024

Back when I thought of Baron going into the future to Victorian times to find a sewing machine for Naomi, I needed to put together a Victorian shop. Now, I don't have a lot of Victorian clothing, and it's all jID size, and both Baron and the shopkeeper would be wearing some, so that didn't leave much. Just one fancy Victorian gown and some children's outfits.

So the store had to become more of a 'general store', selling mostly fabrics and sewing supplies, but also some other things. I used the walls from my Victorian interior, as well as the window unit. I stood the cupboard with bolts of fabric in front of the fireplace, to hide it. Then filled the space as best as I could...
Picture
The set needed to take up the full room space, even though the far end would likely not end up in many photos. It looked especially impressive and believable late in the day with the sun shining in the window...
Picture

Then Baron needed to dress up like a Victorian gentleman. Luckily, because he has the FID Model body, he can wear some JID size clothes, so he borrowed Steve's vest and coat. I added some pockets to the vest so he could wear a pocket watch with chain. But even though the body of the coat fit well, the sleeves were way too short. I was considering making a whole new FID size black coat, but I can't see what I'm doing when working with dark fabrics. So I took the easy way out and just made two black tubes to fit onto, and lengthen, the sleeves of the coat. They'd just be temporary 'cuffs'. I did have to make Baron a new top hat though, since Steve's JID head is so much bigger, so his hat was way too big for Baron.  In the end I thought he looked very impressive

the Bill

The shopkeeper started adding up all of Baron's purchases....
Picture
Picture
It was the biggest sale she'd had all year!
Picture
After paying, Baron put on his hat, and picked up the sewing machine and the bag....
Picture
"Thank you for all your help Miss. My wife is going to love all this."
Picture
And with his errand complete...
Picture
Picture
..he headed out.

More Supplies

8/13/2024

Baron decided he'd better get some extra needles, some machine oil, and a few spare parts for the machine just in case something broke down, as it would be impossible to get them back home. Then he thought Naomi might appreciate an iron as well.
Picture
The shopkeeper had taken out a bag for Baron to put all his extra purchases into....
Picture
"So, is that everything now, Sir?"
Picture
Baron considered if he had everything.  "No, I think I could use some more thread."
Picture
So he started filling the bag with as much thread as it could hold...
Picture
The shopkeeper held the bag as Baron filled it with thread....
Picture
He took all of her thread, then felt bad that he'd depleted her entire stock, so put one spool back...
Picture
"There.  I think that will be enough."
Picture
"That's everything now."
Picture

"Anything Else?"

8/12/2024

The shopkeeper was going to write up the bill. "Is there anything else, Sir?"
Picture
Baron thought for a moment....
Picture
Picture
He realized the sewing machine would be useless without thread...
Picture
"Yes, I'm going to need some thread as well."
