I had meant to take some photos for 'World Doll Day' back on June 12th, and finally got around to it the other day. It took a while to gather all Holly's doll collection.... There's 19 tiny porcelain dolls, most collected from doll shows and Value Village over the years, as well as four porcelain doll house sized dolls which I dressed years ago. There's also one clothespin doll, and two polymer clay babies which I made. There's 3 vinyl babies, another purchased polymer clay baby, 6 tiny cloth Mexican dolls, and several Fairytale Lalaloopsies....and one teddy....
Yesterday, June 21st, was also 'National Go Skateboarding Day'. I looked everywhere for my bigger skateboard but couldn't find it. I only found the two tiny ones, so Mannie Mouse and Mr. Ropuha wanted to try them out. They went to the Civic Center where there were lots of walkways.... "Have you ever done this before?" "No, but I'm willing to give it a try..." So they stepped onto their boards.... ...and off they went.... "This is fun!!" "It sure beats hopping!" "Wheeee...!!"
June 21st is National Seashell Day, and finds Layla, Missy, and Talyssa down at the beach collecting shells....
It was Father's Day, and being the great Dad that he was, Steve promised each of his kids that he'd spend some special time with each of them. He should have given them all a time when he could give sole attention to one at a time. Instead they all wanted his attention at the same time.... "You promised to come to my doll's tea party..." "We even saved a seat for you!" "But you said that you'd play trains with me!!" What was he to do? "Giddyup horsey!!"
June 17th was 'Global Garbage Man Day', and falling on a Thursday, which is our real garbage and recycling day, I decided to follow Owen (who was temporarily helping out at the local waste disposal department) as he made his rounds around town.....
Back at the beginning of June when I was shooting the scene for Donut Day, I lost one of my donuts. I had given Phairby one of the nicest donuts to hold on her plate.... When I was cleaning up, I picker her up, forgetting her plate was loose, so it fell. The plate fell onto the tray with props, but the donut bounced off the table and onto the ground. Then it disappeared. I looked carefully all over the patio and couldn't find it. Jan even looked as well, but still nothing.
So I made a new one, based on the photo. Well, finally, almost three weeks later, Jan noticed a little pink ring at the side of the garden walkway. Finally! No wonder we never found it. It had bounced off the table, and right off the patio, and rolled down the garden walkway. So now I have thirteen donuts - a Baker's Dozen.... So Naomi and Baron went out on the patio for some fresh air... "I'm sorry I was distracted. This is my first time modelling.." "No problem. You're doing great. It was time for a break anyways." "By the way.....I was wondering..." "I was given two tickets to a formal gala this coming weekend..." "...and was wondering if you'd like to come with me?" Her heart skipped a beat...."Yes..." "... I would love to..." He reached out to touch her hand. "I'll be looking forward to it then."
Naomi's mind had drifted off.... "Are you okay?" "I'm so sorry...I must have drifted off...." ...and she realized she'd been fantasizing about the photographer.... She felt so awkward.... "What if we take a little break, and go out for some fresh air?"
Posing during her photo shoot, Naomi's mind was drifting.... ..dreaming of a knight in shining armour. And suddenly he appeared.... "My lady?" She couldn't believe her eyes... He was so handsome... ...and she couldn't resist.... Then she heard someone ask...."Are you okay?"
.....and she snapped out of it, realizing that she'd been day dreaming.. Work on Miho continues to progress. I made her a wig yesterday... It's the first time I tried making a two-tone wig, using dark brown and purple mohair. It's interesting that the camera really highlights the difference in colour, since in real life they blend in together much more... It still needs a bit of styling, but I'll wait a bit before I attempt that.I also haven't decided on a headdress. I saved a picture of one that I'd like to make, but I'm not sure that I can. Her wings are also coming along nicely. I sewed pockets for wire along the top edge, and stitched the veins. I stuffed the top edge of the wings, which proved extremely challenging, especially on the very narrow ends. But I got it done. Then I drew the ragged edges and cut those out, then glued the edge layers together so they won't separate. The wing on the left has the first layer of paint added along the edge.... I wanted 'horns' on the wing joint, so sculpted them out of Aves Apoxie, and poked holes through the bottoms so they could get sewn on, since that would be a lot stronger than just gluing. After the horns cured I sewed them on the wings and covered the bases with more Apoxie.... Then today, after many layers of diluted paint, the wing on the left is ready for beading, and glitter paint. Note that even though most of the turquoise colour is now hidden, the texture of the salt dye pattern still shows through adding textural interest....something that would not have been possible if I'd used plain cotton fabric.... The wing on the right is finished. Well actually that one side is done. I still have to add the 3-D black veins on the other side, but they have to dry on this side first....
