Behind the Scenes

5/12/2022

Well, that was one long intermission, what with Scilla season and the construction of my new dragon interrupting. But it's finally time to get back to my White Cat Sequel.  So I thought I'd start with sharing some Behind-the-Scene shots from Chapter One.

Kassia & Adrian's Castle

The set for the main room in their castle was used many times.  I always photograph each new, empty set, and print it out to file for future reference for when I need to set up the exact same scene again. This set was very wide, so required one extra leaf in the dining room table. The table was then pushed into the bay window to take advantage of the natural light...

One of many scenes that took place in the main room....

The window at the end of the set allowed for some beautiful lighting, especially in late afternoon....

the Tavern

I wanted a warm, cozy tavern set, so built it narrow and deep on the dining room table....

Another view with some of my cats having a good time....just for fun....

Then with 'mood' lighting and the main characters seated at the table...
Picture
I always try to use 'extras' whenever I need to fill out a space. The Tavern had my old Wizard in the back corner enjoying dinner and conversation with Baron. I even ended up using one of the photos in Baron's back-story last year....

Travelling with the Horses

I had started taking the photos for this story two years ago, back in the early Spring of 2020.  We had gone up to one of my favourite locations in the country just north of us, where there were still some patches of snow.
Picture
I was seated on a tarp on the ground, so I had to ask my assistant to move the horses around for me...

Returning Home

We went to the Ruins Garden several times to take photos for the story. First in the Greek Theatre in March 2020.  I had brought along my styrofoam pillars to add some architectural detail.
Picture
A week later Jan ended up in the hospital for a month, then lost his licence for the entire summer, so there were no more on location photo shoots during the next six months.

I decided that I wanted some additional photos of the Prince's return home, so we went again six months later after Jan got his licence back. I just made sure it was the same kind of lighting. The only difference was the trees in the background.  In the top photo, taken in early spring, there were no leaves on the trees yet, whereas when we went again in late September everything was green.

I chose the railing at the base of this instalation to represent part of Kassia and Adrian's castle....

Then some more photos in the Greek Theatre, this time with green leaves showing through the opening beyond.

So tomorrow we finally start Chapter Two.  To revisit the story and catch up to where we left off, visit the White Cat Sequel, Happily Ever After?

At the Movies

As I've mentioned before, my youngest son and his partner have an 'Immersion Room' movie studio.  Well, they've been suggesting I should bring some of my dolls so we could play with them in a virtual environment. So, yesterday on Mother's Day, I packed up my three knights, their horses, plus Miho and my two dragons, and we headed on over to their movie studio.

We started by creating a raised mountaintop set to pose the dolls on. Then I positioned my knights...
Picture
Then Mike started playing with backgrounds....
Picture
Each time he changed the background, he'd also change the lighting so it would be the right colour to match the background, as well as come from the proper direction....
Picture

Picture
Some scenes worked better than others.
Picture
Then we switched to Miho and the dragons, and really had some fun....
Picture
I took a LOT of photos, and haven't decided yet how I want to share them here, especially with that toynewz website continuing to steal every one of my posts off my Antique Lilac site.
Picture
But yesterday's adventure was just too exciting not to share...

"It sure is!"

"I've never seen anything like it!"

When they got back home, Tiana told her friend Ginger, and she had to go take a look too...

"Wow!  Tiana wasn't kidding. I've never seen so many mushrooms in one place!"

A Few Finished Projects

While I'm getting ready to start Chapter 2 of my White Cat Sequel, I've also finished a few other projects. I've put together two new Creative Journey albums.  The first one is the making of Naomi's Wedding Gown. It combines all the Blog posts into one cohesive album, and links to the Medieval/Renaissance Gowns pattern that I used...

The second Creative Journey is the making of the new dragon, Saphira. Again, it combines all the separate Blog posts into a single album.
Picture
Then, since we've finally come to the end of the Scilla season, There's an album with all the photos of my Fashion sized dolls taken in the flowers, both on the town line and in my backyard....
Picture
I still have a few more things to take care of, and then we can continue with the White Cat Story. I had a lot of fun photographing many of the sequences for the next chapter, so stay tuned....

My Fairy Book

And now for some exciting news!  My sister delivered the first copy of our newest book yesterday. It's a book featuring my fairy photos, starting with the very first ones taken of my Elfdoll Ryung back in 2012, and ending with photos of my Mini Kaye Wiggs Fairies in 2021.

Picture
The book is beautiful, and is full of my favourite doll photos taken throughout the years.
Picture
My sister did an amazing job with the layout design....
Picture
...with all the fairy photos arranged by year...
Picture
We wanted a nice clean look with minimal text, so decided not to identify the dolls in each photo on every page. Instead we created a Credits page at the end with a thumbnail of every doll that appears in the book, along with the name of the company it was from....
Picture
That's thirty nine dolls altogether, featured in one hundred and thirty nine photos, on sixty seven glorious full colour pages.  Thank you Marianne!

A New look for Narin

5/5/2022

I ordered my Narin back in 2013 as part of D-Storic's 'End of Contract' sale, and have done very little with him. He ended up with a blonde Johnny wig, wearing a copy of a 'Hobbit' commission.
Picture
He's appeared as an extra in several stories, but after my Butterfly Narae (who was also ordered during that same sale back in 2013) started appearing in stories featuring my Fashion sized dolls, I decided that it was high time Narin was finally given a makeover so he could play a male servant in everyone's castle. I've been avoiding pairing any of my regular MSD and JIDs with my Fashion sized dolls because of the inconsistency in head sizes, but Narae and Narin have much smaller head that most other MSD size dolls, so they would work just fine with them.

So I started by making him a new wig. And he appeared with Narae in the Winter Patrol story...
Picture
Then last month I decided to finally make him a better outfit....

So, now I'm coming to the real reason for this post.  This morning, for the second time in as many weeks, I received a message from someone on Facebook telling me about a website that is stealing many of my Blog posts, without permission, or even any kind of credit - toynews.com

I had tried going to their contact page before, trying to tell them to cease and desist, but their contact page would not work.  It's apparently fake, as are all the email addresses. There didn't seem to be any way to contact them.  Then this morning I was given a link to a page by another blogger describing all their efforts to try and stop that site from stealing her blog posts. She had apparently gone to great lengths to try and put a stop to her blog being copied, given the run around at every turn, with no success at all.

I felt very discouraged, and violated, but there didn't seem much I could do to stop it, and I almost felt like quitting.  But I've decided to try do something about it.  From now on I'm going to put my website name and copyright statement in every single post.  Perhaps a statement like "This post is the copyright property of Martha Boers and if it appears anywhere other than on my Antique Lilac website, it was stolen without my permission."

I don't know if the admins on the toynewz site actually edit the stuff they steal because it looks like they just copy my entire post, so I'm hoping that statement will show up when they steal my post. Or maybe they'll cut it out, who knows?  But it's worth a try.
