Today I really, really need to buckle down and sculpt those sheep crooks! It's time to move onto the next commission - I've already started sorting out the patterns I'll need - but the Bo Peep sets aren't finished until these props are done.
I have to take advantage of all the blue flowers while I can, so yesterday I took my two Victorian girls over for a photo-shoot. First Lisa and Lonnie taking their buggy full of baby dolls for a walk.... ...and Lonnie pondering her bouquet of beautiful blue flowers... The scilla photos are forcing me to try some new Photoshop techniques, blurring the backgrounds in an effort to minimize the clutter of all the distracting dog-strangling vines and dead branches in the background. They are everywhere this year, and it's a huge challenge trying to find good spots to take photos. If it was my property, I would mow down all the dead weeds in late fall and clear out the fallen branches, so that there would be a perfect sea of uninterupted blue flowers the following spring. That would look spectacular! Oh well, I just have to make the best of it as it is.

The orchard with scillas is in full bloom again, but it's getting much more difficult to take nice photos there. Most of the orchard is covered with dead dog-strangling vines, and there's piles of broken branches from the Christmas ice storm. Then there's the question of who do I take there? Well, I have a brand new little Toad, so I thought I'd shoot a little story. Here's Bonnie as the Princess, playing among the flowers.... ....and Mr Ropuha, the Toad..... To go to the story, and see what happens, just click on the photo.
Well, Bo Peep number two loves lambs, and luckily I found one for her to hold. But she didn't want to share him when Layla came over and wanted to try pet him.... Although I don't think I can blame her, considering how rough Layla is with her frog.
The costumes are all done now, but I still haven't sculpted the crooks. I've been distracting myself with playing with the dolls, taking photos, filling up the bird feeders outside, watering plants, cleaning up the laces and ribbons, putting beads and thread away, doing laundry, fixing a torn shirt - anything and everything except sculpting. I better just buckle down and force myself to do it. The first Bo Peep is finished and ready to go out and watch the sheep, but it seems I have a little rebel on my hands. Layla won't go. "I don't like sheep!! I like frogs better!!" Well, all righty then. There's still two more Bo Peeps coming. Maybe one of them will like sheep.
I'm hoping to be able to finish all the Bo Peep outfits today. I made the underskirts separate, and they turned out a bit long, so this morning I sewed two rows of tucks into all of them. They look so much cuter shorter, and I figured tucks was easier and faster than cutting off all the waistbands and making new ones. Plus, they make the skirts stand out more. I also really need to sculpt the crooks. I've wired and wrapped the curve on the ends of the dowels, and the next step is to sculpt. But I really don't like working with Apoxie. Oh well, better just force myself and get it over with! |
