Almost Finished

6/6/2025

I've been working on two very similar Medieval Fantasy gowns for a while. It's taken a long time due to all the beading. Fortunately I had been working on both of them in tandem up until the hanging sleeves, so after the first gown was finished I didn't have to start right from the beginning with the second one.
Picture
The gowns were inspired by a gorgeous multi-coloured semi-sheer velour I found at Value Village, and the first gown has simple, straight, hanging sleeves.

The second gown is almost identical except it has dagged hanging sleeves, which take WAY more time to embroider and bead (several days each)

The next step is to attach the hanging sleeves to the under sleeve and sew the sleeve units to the bodice. Then I can finally embellish the neckline and finish the second gown.

I can't wait to see the two dresses finished.
What patience you must have had to embroider and sew the beads onto the two scalloped sleeves of the second dress. Well done!
Have a great weekend.

Thanks. It was quite the challenge, both the embroidery and the beading. The beading needles are a pain to thread because the needle is just as thin as the thread itself, and the eye is tiny, and I don't see very well, especially in low light. It's interesting that some thread goes through the eye better than others. It also makes a difference which end of the thread I try. Or the colour. Some colours go through on the first try, while others take as many as twenty attempts. Then, once the needle was actually threaded, the thread constantly kept getting caught on stuff. Anyways, that's why only one of the gowns has the dagged sleeves. It was already enough to just do it twice.

What lovely gowns. I don't remember Serena. Is she new? I think she is pretty.

Yes, Serena is new. I posted about her back on May 9. I don't think I'd have ordered her directly from the company, but I spotted her for sale at too good a price to pass up - right here in Canada. I figured she'd make a great costume model, so I sent payment on a Thursday, she was shipped the next day, and she arrived on the Monday three days later. Would have been even faster if there hadn't been a weekend in between.

I haven't assigned her to any of my existing doll families.. She's just a costume model right now - along with Sarah.
